Is the person on the pic really Jyothika or is it Nayantara? Can someone help? I keep confusing all the local actresses. --Plumcouch 00:02, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lol its Nayantara! Bless! Mistakes always happen! Thamizhan 17:58, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay. Then I'll re-name the pic and add it to Nayantara's article. Thanks! --Plumcouch 08:52, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Beautiful wife.jpg

[edit]

Image:Beautiful wife.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Awards and awards

[edit]

There are awards listed in the Notes column of the subject's filmography, and there are awards listed in a unique section on awards. This seems needlessly redundant. The awards should probably be removed from the filmography section, or the awards could be incorporated entirely into the filmography, provided that it doesn't make a big mess. The former might be the wiser idea. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:52, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fake sources

[edit]

Seriously nobody checked this page and its fake sources. Please do check my last edit. The introduction is copied from actress Simran's article on wiki, also you dont have to mention all the films that she has been part of in the intro. I know that because I have done the comparisions between the both article. Too many unwanted fan poin of views. After 5 days, if no (real) sources is added to this article. I am going to remove all those fake awards and the intro will be edited too. Thank you. (Ason27 (talk) 06:46, 19 April 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Done reverting the article to my last edit. Thank you. Ason27 (talk) 07:14, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GOOD morning, you are strongly urged to participate in this discussion. @Ason27: I don't understand why in these edits [2][[3] you've removed content about the subject leaving the industry. That seems noteworthy. My overall note for this article is that the lead does need some clean-up. You both might want to look at Meryl Streep, which is rated as a good article, as a rough model for this one, at least for the lead. GOOD morning, a good deal of your changes here were problematic for reasons I've detailed on your talk page, and you'll need to address these issues and not repeat them if we intend to move forward. If the general issue that Ason27 has about this article is that some of the content is inaccurate or fabricated, then you should probably both go issue-by-issue to find references that clarify the matter. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:09, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dear, @Cyphoidbomb: To clarify my view, I visited the page and I see some serious fae references. I know this because I made the cross checklist on every each of the sources. I may have missed the leaving the industry part. I did that because the tone has been copied from Simran's article, I know this because I am the one who made it. However, as a fellow wikipedia editor, I thought the article needed some cleanup, on that part I did good. Ths user called GOOD morning, have take it personally and you could see his abusive nature if you visit my talk page, also he or she put a warning message on Jyothika's article with my username on it. I did good to this article, trying to remove some fan point of view related entries. Thank you. If you want I can just leave this page in mess, and let it become a fanpage instead of wikipedia article. Last but not least, I don't see why GOOD morning having so much hatred on me, till he or she trying to mess my other contributed articles. Thank you again. Ason27 (talk) 17:13, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ason27: It would probably be helpful if you'd point to specific references you're describing as "fake". Also, GOOD morning has been warned about abstaining from personal attacks, so maybe the best approach here is to move on without dwelling on it. If you clarify what specifically you find problematic about this article, then it will make it easier to address. I'm not sure what concern you have about the "tone" of this article being copied from Simran's article. If you're saying that content has been copied, that's a different matter, but I'm unclear why you're objecting to what sounds like a stylistic issue. And as for it becoming a fanpage, you haven't explained what specific passages or references you find problematic. Until you do, we're pretty much just spinning our gears. The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Jyothika Saravanan (née Jyothika Sadanah on 18 October 1977) is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Tamil films.[1][2]She also acted in a few Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi films.

She debuted in Bollywood in the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna directed by Priyadarshan. She was considered for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and , before starring in her first Tamil film Vaali and her first Telugu film Tagore, opposite Chiranjeevi.

Jyothika received critical praise for playing a blind woman in Perazhagan, An alter ego Chandramukhi and Ganga in Chandramukhi, A mute and deaf girl in Mozhi and a Middle aged Woman in 36 Vayadhinile. However the turning point of her career came with the success of Vaali (1999) and Kushi (2000). At the peak of her career she agreed to play the role of an antagonist in Pachaikili Muthucharam (2006).[3][4][5]

She received her first Filmfare Awards for Vaali as Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South[6].She was awarded the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award for Kushi. A string of successful films followed and gained prominence for her performances in Kushi, Dhool, Thenali , Thirumalai, Dumm Dumm Dumm, Snegithiye , Kaaka Kaaka , Perazhagan , Chandramukhi , June R , Pachaikili Muthucharam , Mozhi and 36 Vayadhinile.

Jyothika left the industry at the peak of her career marrying actor Suriya on 11 September 2006, after being engaged in a relationship for several years[7] and with whom she was paired in seven films. She won three Filmfare Awards, three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, four Dinakaran Awards , Cinema Express Awards, International Tamil Film Awards and other awards and nominations. She is also a recipient of the Kalaimamani Award.[8]

Simran (current one by me)

Simran Bagga (born Rishibala Naval; 4 April 1976), known professionally only as Simran, is an Indian actress who has predominantly appeared in Tamil, Telugu and a few Malayalam films. She debuted in Bollywood and acted in Hindi films, before starring in her first Tamil film V.I.P and her first Telugu film Abbai Gari Pelli in 1997.

Having a string of successes in her early career, in 1999, Simran received critical praise for playing a blind woman in Thulladha Manamum Thullum. However the turning point of her career came with the success of Vaali (1999) which made Simran the most successful actress in the industry. At the peak of her career she agreed to play the role of an antagonist in Parthen Rasithen (2000) and a suffering woman from a premarital agreement in Priyamaanavale (2000), both went on to become commercial and critical successes. She received her first Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress for Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), as the mother of an adopted 9-year-old daughter. Other than romantic dramas, Simran had also appeared in two blockbuster comedy films alongside Kamal Hassan; Pammal K. Sambandam and Panchathantiram, both released in 2002. In Telugu, Simran starred in a series of commercially successful films, Samarasimha Reddy (1999), Kalisundam Raa (2000) and Narasimha Naidu (2001), and for the latter, she received her first Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress nomination. With the success of the 2004 sci fi film New, Simran left the film industry following her marriage with her childhood family friend Deepak Bagga.[15] In 2008 she made a comeback to Tamil cinema with Vaaranam Aayiram, where she played the role of a mother and a wife to the characters played by Suriya and won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 1998, entertainment portal Rediff.com called her "one of Tamil cinema's top female draws".[16][17] In 1999, she was featured in Forbes Magazine as the most prolific actress with a diverse portfolio from the Indian sub continent.[18] Well noted for her dancing and acting skills in the Indian film industry, she won three Filmfare Awards South including Best Female Debut for Once More, V.I.P and Nerrukku Ner, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress for Thulladha Manamum Thullum, three Cinema Express Awards and was awarded twice with the Kalaimamani award in 1999 and 2003.[19][20]

{{subst:unsigned|Ason27]]

Ason27, please itemize your concerns about the article, don't just dump a copy of the whole thing here. Your points should be discussed one at a time so editors can reach agreement. In the section above, User:Cyphoidbomb has been struggling to understand your objections. Please enlighten us. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 21:55, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Ason27: A good way to do this is perhaps like this:
  1. From the lead, She debuted in Bollywood in the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna directed by Priyadarshan. Her first film was not Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, it was actually X, so we should change it.
  2. From the lead, Jyothika left the industry at the peak of her career marrying actor Suriya on 11 September 2006 She never officially left the industry, as is evident from her work in Y, so this should be clarified.
  3. In the filmography section, it says that she won ____ award. This claim is not sourced, and I don't see the evidence of it at this reference (You'd actually put a reference here, not use the fake formatting that I did.)
That's probably the simplest way to indicate what specifically you find problematic, along with recommendations for changes, and this way if anyone objects to #1 or wishes to address point #3, they can. You can look in the talk page source to see how I formatted this. Remember you can use the Show preview button to get it just right before saving the changes to the page. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:15, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyphoidbomb: i think you mistook one thing, that jyothika article that i mention is done by GoodMorning not by m. WHat i wanted to say is he or she copied the intro tone from Simran's aricle. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ason27 (talkcontribs)
@Ason27: First, please sign your posts with four tildes ~~~~. This will append your name and a time stamp. Second, you still haven't explained what specifically is problematic about what GOOD morning added, whether they "copied the intro tone" from Simran's article or not. Non-notable awards and honours

[edit]

@Jyothu:, re: these changes, you shouldn't be adding any awards or honours that don't have articles already associated with them. By that I mean, we only care about notable awards, and if nobody's written an article about a specific award, then notability has not properly been established. Awards should come from well-known, established entities, and their associated articles should have endured significant community scrutiny. Because here's a big secret: (you ready?) A lot of awards are fluffy and meaningless, established by people who just want to make a quick buck, or by people who just want to promote people. For instance, at WP:FILMCRITICLIST, "Because of the proliferation of film festivals and "award mills", festival awards should be added with discretion, with inclusion subject to consensus. Awards bestowed by web-only entities are not included." Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:48, 13 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate change

[edit]

@M15s09: re: this edit, obviously it was well-meaning, but is there some information in the video that makes it definitive that Jyothika's birth year is 1978? Her saying "I'm 40" doesn't quite do the trick, because we don't know when the video was shot. If the video was taken prior to 18 October, she could have said "I'm 40" and that would have been accurate, only to become inaccurate once 18 October came around. We can't go by the YouTube upload date, because anything could delay the release of the video. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:27, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyphoidbomb: Thanks for considering it a well-meaning edit. I am a frequent watcher of the publisher Galatta Tamil on YouTube. As far as I know, they don't take a really long time to publish their videos. They publish their videos within 2 to 3 days of the shoot. As a summary, the video that I referenced, published on 5th November 2018, is about Jyothika sharing her views of her return to acting post her sabbatical, her relationship with her husband Suriya, and the talk about her upcoming film Kaatrin Mozhi, which is due for release on the 16th of November 2018. The actress does mention her current age as 40 years in the interview, but I'll check for other sources for cross-reference and get back. Thanks, once again.|M15s09| (talk) 09:55, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@M15s09: I appreciate your open-mindedness, thank you. My chief concern is that we already have a source that puts her birth year at 1977. Doesn't mean that it's guaranteed to be accurate, but secondary sources are usually up on that sort of thing. Although... Pinkvilla says she was born in 1977. (We don't really consider Pinkvilla a reliable source, but it's worth noting.) India Today puts her at 40 in 2018, however I dislike using slideshows as references, because we don't know who (like an intern?) assembled it. The other thing we have to be mindful of as well is that sometimes Indian actresses have age drift--i.e. they sometimes fudge their ages. Disha Patani's age is a matter of dispute, for instance. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:51, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]
@KollyLeaks: I'm unclear on why you think this is a definitive reference on the subject's birth name. The mere existence of a website doesn't automatically suggest expertise or accuracy, and a faceless website like this is highly questionable, and doesn't even make the claim that this is her birth name. We need a mainstream reliable source where there is a presumption of journalistic integrity. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:31, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, needs to be removed. The note column can have other things. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:39, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many of the awards and nominations are also mentioned in the Career section. I'm not proposing they be cut from there, just noting that we basically have her awards listed THREE times in this article. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:13, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cyphoidbomb, I'm betting we know who to thank for that - GOOD morning and their socks. Ravensfire (talk) 14:45, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Remove unverified claim "She was also considered for the lead female role in Vetrimaaran's Asuran opposite Dhanush". Among the 3 references, 2 doesn't even mention her and the 3rd doesn't mention the film's name, it also fails WP:RS and that YT channel fails WP:USERG. 2409:4073:10D:E254:5960:E4D:E4D4:5005 (talk) 12:26, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done and the two sentences after it, which were also completely unsupported by their sources. 3mi1y (talk) 22:04, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
