UPDATED, John Tree is not an active candidate for any elected office

[edit]

Untitled

[edit]

John Tree is not an active candidate for Congress. The wiki article was not written by someone from his own campaign, and it existed before he became a candidate for office, based upon his military record and accomplishments.

Contested deletion

[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because I've read the wiki guidance for asserting importance for military officers and Colonel Tree meets the requirements based on his rank and accomplishments as a commander. He is currently serving at the Pentagon at the Headquarters of the United States Air Force. He is one of the most heavily decorated officers in the modern Air Force. Also his awards and decorations from the military are unique in that he has earned personal decorations from both the Army and Air Force, along with shooting marksmanship medals from the Navy. He is also an elite Air Force marksman, being one of the few in the entire Air Force (officer and enlisted) to earn and wear the "Excellence in Competition" pistol shooting badge, as can be seen on his official military photo. I've added the references and links for Colonel Tree, as well as other reference citations for the other information I wrote on his article. Please remove the delete tag at your soonest opportunity. Thanks,— Milvetdem

Removal of the COI tag

[edit]

I am the original author of this article about John Tree, who serves as a full Colonel at the Pentagon with the U.S. Air Force. I am neither related to him or work for him. I wrote this article last year in an objective, neutral, 3rd party fashion, and it has been edited by many Wiki editors. It is also fully cited. It so happens that just this past November to March, John was a candidate for the U.S. Congress from the 10th district in Illinois. It seems his primary opponents didn't like that he was listed in Wiki due to his meeting the wiki notoriety guidelines (while they didn't meet the guidelines themselves). So they (or their underlings) protested this wiki article by stating that it was a COI due to Mr. Tree being an active candidate for Congress.

Two things here: First, it is my opinion that being an active candidate for office doesn't disqualify a wiki article's right to exist. If that were the case, there would be quite a few articles that would need to be removed each election cycle. Second, Mr. Tree did not win the election, and is no longer an active candidate for any office.

He still continues to serve our country at the Pentagon, however, but now there is a COI tag on this article. Incidentally, I notice this COI tag was removed by an anonymous IP and then reverted back by the editor, Paris1127.

I'm requesting the community review this article to confirm that, like before, the article stands on its own and isn't biased towards Mr. Tree's former candidacy. Following this review, Paris1127, please remove the COI tag.

OK. I've removed the COI tag, I'm convinced you are not affiliated with Mr. Tree's campaign. I will, however, replace it with a More Footnotes tag, as the article needs more. I do have some reservations about Mr. Tree's notability and the way the article is written though... Paris1127 (talk) 20:08, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I would appreciate your feedback on where more inline citations would go? I believe the correct wiki protocol is to only cite the first instance of something being mentioned, same for links to other wiki pages, such as military ranks and awards/medals. So please let me know what parts you believe need more citations, and I'll get to work on them. Thanks in advance, Paris1127. Milvetdem (talk) 12:36, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disgruntled former political opponent.
