I have now managed to find an ISBN number from a later version.

What does this mean? "Because no superior officer had witnessed this act, but it was reported in dispatches." That he did not receive an award for the action? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.86.153 (talk) 14:22, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup - he couldn't be awarded a medal. Being mentioned in dispatches was the next best thing - meant his bravery had been officially noted.
