Effect of Appropriations Cmte chairmanship on elections

[edit]

In addition, it is considered all but impossible to defeat an Appropriations Committee chairman in an election. I assume you're arguing causation: Whitten was reelected in part because he was Appropriations chairman. Perhaps that's true, but then again it may be only a matter of correlation rather than causation, especially in Whitten's case. I'm taking this out unless you can bring a citation showing this statement's truth and relevance to Whitten. Terence7 (talk) 04:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of his having a stroke in mid 1993

[edit]

Could well be why he was removed as chair of the Appropriations committee in 1993 and why he didn't seek reelection in 1994 ? - Rod57 (talk) 19:50, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good point..I added it (the stroke was February 1992 says Barole.) Rjensen (talk) 01:43, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
