Best man is relevant why?

[edit]

Dear Mr 82.42.182.200 please stop adding the useless and irrelevant "info" that is: His best man was Mr Simon Forshaw of West Derby.

If you honestly think it is:

  1. relevant
  2. correct

please state why (a reference would be useful, lol) aLii 19:40, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Height

[edit]

The offical Premier League site has him at 1.86 m [1]

Yahoo EuroSport has him at 1.80 m [2]

ESPN SoccerNet has him at 1.85 m [3]

The official Liverpool FC site has him at 1.85 m [4]

...I say we go with the official Liverpool FC website listing

Going with Liverpool FC is correct criteria as of now. Hitro talk 07:22, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tattoo

[edit]

I've heard a rumour that "Carra" has a tattoo of Everton's crest (Liverpool's hated rivals) on his arm from when he was a kid. Apparently that's the reason he always wears long sleeves. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Quite a common rumour. This article used to have that piece of information but it was taken off. Needs a verifiable source.--Tiresais 11:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Carragher has addressed this in at least one interview and said that the rumour is false. (uefa.com) aLii 18:59, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Private Life

[edit]

Is his accent a subject for this section? I think not. I propose it be removed or deleted if no on can come up with a justification. Barfbagger 19:30, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I propose you go kill yourself but that's not gonna happen either, so no. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.168.37.41 (talk) 19:40, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel Words

[edit]

"Many football experts consider Carragher to be one of the best natural "out-and-out" defenders in England" Short of a citation I think this this should be removed as Wikipedia:Avoid weasel words 82.5.219.55 16:56, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is considered by many, including famous Franco Baresi, to be the best defender in Europe but is probably the most underrated player at his position.

Public reaction

[edit]

I added a paragraph about the public reaction to Jamies retirement. I don't think anyone will disagree with what i said.

Confusing sentence

[edit]

In the "Club career" section, I've spotted this confusing line: By the 1997–98 season, Carragher was a regular in the first-team squad by the 1998–99 campaign,. So was it the 1997/98 season when he became a regular, or the 1998/99 season? (I've looked at the statistics - he made 20 appearances in the former, and 34 in the latter season.) DitzyNizzy (aka Jess) (talk) 22:45, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's sorted that out.[5] A bit dry but the article still needs a lot of work regardless. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 23:34, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone know why it states that he played for the Italy national and U-21 teams?

Spurs own goals note

[edit]

At least one IP editor has attempted to remove this statement and I have to say that I'm inclined to agree but as Mittgaurav has already declined its removal I'll broach it here. It's an interesting little fact, but an arbitrary one. I feel that including it here gives it undue weight and I suspect may have been added as mischief by someone wishing to belittle Carragher's achievements. Unless anyone feels particularly strongly about keeping it, I'll remove it or support someone else doing it in the absence of further objection. danno_uk 22:03, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Jamie Carragher is a retired English footballer Mulungu (talk) 17:54, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: First, we need a reliable source showing that he has retired. What we have now are sources that he intends to retire. Once that is provided, please be specific as to what changes you would like to see made to the article, in the form "Change X to Y". --ElHef (Meep?) 19:10, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong number of goals scored

[edit]

Jamie scored 3 league goals in his career. The goal listed in the career statistics in season 2008/9 against Middlesbrough was credited as an own goal by Emanuel Pogatetz. Reference: http://www.rsssf.com/tablese/eng09.html (match played in round 2). I haven't edited wikipedia-pages before so I'm leaving it to someone who knows how to do it. 85.165.24.56 (talk) 01:37, 2 June 2013 (UTC)magnus[reply]

Things to work on to better the article :
  • As well as being a leader, he is also seen as the joker of the team. His determination and attitude on the pitch, his humble nature off it, and his willingness to stick to his roots, have made him the player most fans identify with best. is a bit too POV oriented.
  • Whether out-and-out is explained or wikilinked.
  • As a result, he has been described as a victim of his own versatility. shouldn't be part of the article.
  • Club career section is a bit big, maybe subsectionning it would help the reading.
  • again coming on a substitute, this doesn't really make sense, IMO.
  • Because of this he would be deployed to fill in wherever there was a hole, ultimately harming his ability to hold down a first team position of his own. should be referenced.
  • By this time Carragher had become a firm fans' favourite for his determination, and "no-nonsense" style of defending. not sure it is appropriate for an encyclopedia article.
  • He hit the headlines in January 2002 during an FA Cup tie against Arsenal. which headlines ... local, international ... if it pertains to the subject of the paragraph, it would be nicer to have somewhat of a background to the story.
  • troublesome knee ... could be replaced by injured knee or something else to give it more NPOV I think.
In that same paragraph ... the disrepute charge given meant what? did he miss matches because of that?
  • The prose needs a bit of tweaking ... it is ok but it misses in the club career section.
  • horror tackle, should be changed to horrendous or a synonym.
  • In the second half of the season, he made a terrific comeback making 24 further appearances. are there sources to back that fact.
  • forming what has become one of the best central defensive partnerships in Europe. by which source? or by whom?
  • In 1996, before signing a professional contract or making his league debut, Carragher made his debut for the England under-21 team. ... the second debut should be changed to Carragher started off with
  • On 1st July 2006 Carragher was one of three players to have a penalty saved by Ricardo Pereira, as England yet again succumbed on penalties to exit the 2006 World Cup in the quarter finals against Portugal. Carragher, who had been brought on as a substitute for Aaron Lennon in the dying moments of the game, presumably with the "shoot-out" in mind, was the most unfortunate of the three players who missed, as he scored with his first attempt but was forced to re-take the kick by the referee, who had not blown his whistle. Carragher then saw his second effort saved. is a bit to specific to go with the breadth of the article (maybe shortening it to 1 sentence if it is absolutely necessary).
  • There aren't any references (only 1) in the reference section pertaining to the biggest sections which are about his career accomplishments.
  • The article isn't purely NPOV.
  • Too many profile links in the external links section. Lincher 23:41, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
