Talk:Statue of James Shaw
added citation citing notability of the statue - James shaw went on to be mayor of london (Mccarthystumble (talk) 09:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC))
- That doesn't prove the notability of the statue, which is the subject of the article. You might want to write an article about James Shaw first, and mention his statue within that? Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 09:39, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Jonathan - hopefully I will get that going over the next few days. (Mccarthystumble (talk) 09:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC))
i have now cited Archibald McKay's The History of Kimarnock which comments on the noteworthiness of the statue itself. I trust this will be ok to prevent deletion. The text also discusses james Shaw and his achievements. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mccarthystumble (talk • contribs) 19:35, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Please create this under James Shaw (1764-1843). Thanks. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 20:16, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- It should actually be Sir James Shaw, 1st Baronet, since that is the name on the disambig page and he is clearly notable as a Lord Mayor of London, and Baronet. From that, the statue is a doddle to deal with, and it's not clear to me how notable is the sculptor. It may be that when this all comes out in the wash, this article may well be mergeable into the person's article, with a redirect, but for now, it's probably better to establish Shaw's own article. - I've started his article as a stub. How much more it can be expanded is up to the available sources, but I think they're out there. Then, perhaps, we can revisit this article. Rodhullandemu 02:25, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Looking into this, there were several Shaw baronetcies, so I've had to move the man's article to Sir James Shaw, 1st Baronet of Kilmarnock to disambiguate, and fix in this article. Rodhullandemu 15:50, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Merge proposal
[edit]Although the statue is itself notable, I think there is much duplication of material between this article and Sir James Shaw, 1st Baronet, which I have since created. Accordingly, I think the statue is somewhat less notable than the man himself, in the absence of ample sources, and the statue should be described in the man's article, where it is already mentioned in the "Legacy" section. Of course, this article may well be redirected to the biography, and other content merged, so nothing will be lost. Rodhullandemu 00:12, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
