John Laffin on page 6 of the 2/31st Battalion history seems to indicate that James Gordon was related to Bernard Sidney Gordon, another VC recipient. He only infers this, however, so I am not certain of this. The exact quote is: "...[Mrs Gordon] had a link with the 2/31st Battalion, being the aunt of Jim Gordon, VC. She was...the widow of Bernard Gordon, VC, MM, of the 41st Battalion, first AIF." Can anyone confirm, or deny? — AustralianRupert (talk) 11:20, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing definitive, but I suspect tracking it down may be a challenge ...
ADB on Bernard [1] says Bernard was survived by his second wife Caroline Edith, née Victorsen and widow of Manley, before becoming Gordon, so there were three families she was aunt to!
ADB on James [2] says James was the fifth of eight surviving children, suggesting big families! His father was William Beattie Gordon, and mother Harriett Ann, née Scott.
James uncle John [3] was married to Anne Wright Rogers (not Caroline), so that rules them out. However, it also says James father William was A brother (big families), and then there's his mother's side of the family!

Hi, mate. Thanks for those sources. I'll keep looking for something definitive, but suspect I may never be able to find it out definately. — AustralianRupert (talk) 08:55, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
