This article should be rewritten so that it has one voice. Now it sounds as though several parties are debating throughout the paragraphs. There also seem to be many disparaging things said about him that do not belong in his biography. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.20.70.106 (talk) 20:33, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Children, wife, family, and the future of IKEA

Can someone mention Ingvar Kamprad's children, is he married, divorced? And how did he place his sons in his empire. What will happen with IKEA after Ingvar Kamprad.

Clarifications

This passage was removed: According to Swedish business weekly Veckans Affärer [1], he is the wealthiest person in the world. However, this assertion is denied by IKEA, which notes that Kamprad no longer owns the company, which should therefore not be included in reports of his wealth. Forbes magazine continues to rank Bill Gates at #1, ranking Kamprad at #13.

General Electric "trades for" $370 billion. But the value is split on 10.57 billion shares. And no one person owns all of them. Jeffrey Immelt is the CEO and owns 683,532 of them. IKEA is not a "public company" and doesn't disclose very detailed ownership information. ([2]) But probably no company valued above $50 billion is owned by a single person. - Jerryseinfeld 21:20, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I believe that assumption is slightly incorrect as IK's family does privately own the company.
Correct or not, the information that this was reported should be in the article. Fredrik | talk 12:35, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Being bold and adding it. [maestro] 14:17, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)

There are some free-to-use pictures of Kamprad lecturing at Växjö University (a press release) at http://www.vxu.se/presscenter/pressreleaser/040423_kamprad.html "kan fritt användas för publicering (fotograf: Hasse Karlsson)", translation: "may be freely published (photographer: Hasse Karlsson)". Don't have time to add them myself. --anonymous

I have uploaded these to Commons and added one of them here. up+land 2:14, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

Alcoholic

"he was once an alcoholic which is something that he regrets" This does not sound well with me. Being alcoholic is not something that you get over. Regretting it is like regretting that you had cancer. This should be rewritten for the sake of all alcoholics.

-- Who are you to say what he regrets or not? He's been quoted exactly the way it says in this article, i.e. that he regrets being an alcoholic. He regrets that part of his life.

I just removed it - not because I think it's unimportant, but because it is an unsupported statement. I'd be all for someone adding it back - even quoting his exact words - but it needs a citation for where it's been previously published at. (Perhaps his biography?)

Also, folks, please remember to sign your talk page entries. Thanks! NickBurns 19:09, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Yay - thanks for readding the info WITH citation. Awesome! NickBurns 21:17, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Gift?

When Kamprad was 17, his father gave him a gift for succeeding in his studies. He used this gift to establish what has grown into IKEA. What gift? Needs clarification, otherwise should be removed.--203.87.6.149 13:11, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Done. It was a monetary reward. I agree that the wording of that sentence is a little clumsy. --Sus scrofa 13:47, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

So, how did he Really get money?

It seems that he traded matches in the farm, got some (how much? 10 buck, or ten million??) money from a gift and created a $30 billion dollars worth shop. Tell us something about why the furniture is so cheap (children labor in asia not much different from slaves). Tell me why he (who can't even learn well (!)) managed to build this IKEA empire, while a lot of other people failed.

Clash of Data,i think

This page says his net worth is $33Billion and is fourth richest person in the world, the Lakshmi Mittal page says that he is worth $50Billion and fifth richest in the world, obviously one of them is wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.0.59 (talk) 08:06, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

This biography is usefull if one applys for a cleaner position in IKEA and wants to impress human resource office. Otherwise the article doesnot worth reading.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.72.176.18 (talkcontribs)

Bill Gates is no more number one.

Dear All

According to the new list of forbes released on March 5, 2008, Bill Gates is no more the richest person. The richest person is now Warren Buffet. Can someone with the editing rights please make the correction in this article.--202.147.160.172 (talk) 06:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

The error i have mentioned is in the section 'Net Worth' in the line 'Forbes magazine continues to rank Bill Gates at #1, ranking Kamprad at #4.' --202.147.160.172 (talk) 06:54, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

According to Swedish business life the networth of Ingvar Kamrad exceeds 88 billion dollars. It is a bit difficult to know exactly since there are a number of different holdings and foundations controling the company. However they are all owned by IK and/or his family as you probably know. Forbes are however far from the targe with their estimates.

Net Worth section

The addition made by 86.140.121.122 on March 6 seems incongruous and unnecessary. As I am only a peripheral contributor to the Wiki I will refrain from removing it myself, but it seems like this content must go against some Wikipedia policies. - 19 April 2008

I'm not really sure why the information in the Net Worth section was ever changed from the December 23d version. Had I seen that it was correct (and formatted nicely) in the past revision, I wouldn't have bothered making the table. All of the edits should maybe just be reverted back to the Dec 23d version, especially as I can't figure out how to keep the table from extending into the following section. Richest man in Europe?

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Rinat_Akhmetov is noted to have over 30 billion dollars and is claimed to be the richest man in Europe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.185.7.139 (talk) 16:55, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Implications that Kamprad is some sort of Nazi-Revivalist

The fact that Ingvar Kamprad was part of a Pro-Nazi support group, is hideous and beyond regrettable. He has publically stated his prior involvement was his "greatest regret" of his life, by far. He also has written a letter of apology to ALL Jewish employees, of IKEA. Now, under the section, Nazi-Involvement, I removed the last sentence, which read: It is believed that the fact that IKEA is one of the few retailers to have a store in Israel, even though it also does business with the Arab World, reflects an attempt to temper this controversy. This sentence is NOTHING MORE than a speculative opinion. Why? The way it was worded, implied that because Kamprad does business with the Arab world, he likely still agrees with the viewpoints of Nazi support groups. This is ABSURD. The source, which was sited for this sentence came from, Jewish News Weekly of Northern California, a small publication.

In short, it was beyond hideous that this influential, high profile figure made the choice to be part of a group that supported despicable acts, and this, should not be forgotten. The fact that Kamprad said it is his "greatest regret" doesn't change his past involvement. We cannot imply that Kamprad actively or even tacitly espouses ideas or acts, which are pro-Nazi, on the basis of where IKEA does business, or, to some extent, IKEA’s customers. This implication was made because he does business with the Arab world, and that is NOT an indication that he dislikes Jewish people, or is anti-Semitic; even if he does business with the Arab world, when there is only one store in Israel. --Irshgrl500 12:00, 20 December 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Irshgrl500 (talkcontribs)

Control of IKEA

Kamprad has retained his control of IKEA through franchising fees and the Interogo Foundation. See more here. Björn Knutson (talk) 20:46, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Negative emphasis should be deleted

the fact that he may have driven a Porsche, or owned a vineyard in Provence is all good information, and should be added to the article alongside his "frugality" however the insertion of it being to market the company better should not be, Wikipedia is not a PR place, it should not make the man look bad, and it implies heavily he is dishonest and trustworthy, this is an opinion, and I therefore delete it, please comment back if it irritates you 81.159.132.236 (talk) 20:52, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

His nazi background is now well documented and should be included

A user has just removed this line:
  • In 2011 an [[SVT]] journalist, Elisabeth Åsbrink, published details of Kamprad's involvement in the [[National Socialist Workers' Party (Sweden)|Swedish nazi movement]] as a young man.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.thelocal.se/35732/20110824/|title='Ikea founder was an active Nazi': report|date=24 August 11|work=The Local|accessdate=24 August 2011|location=Stockholm}}</ref>
This story was all over the Swedish media yesterday. Wikipedia cannot just ignore the real world: it makes us look stupid. --Mais oui! (talk) 06:02, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
