GA Review
[edit]I'll read through this in the next couple of days, and post comments, meanwhile, i'll see if I can fix the Linnaeus reference jimfbleak (talk) 06:07, 26 July 2008 (UTC) OK, some comments
- One very quick point, the "see also" is inappropriate, Painted Bunting is already linked in the article (and even if it wasn't I can't see any obvious rationale) Done
- General – overlinking, Florida, for example, is linked three times Done
- Lead – some mention of relationships, eg with the Lazuli Bunting? Done
- I’d put northern South America in lead too Done
- using the stars to direct itself – navigate? Done
- It is considered a bird of Least Concern by the IUCN.- Fits poorly, just say it’s common somewhere
- Taxonomy Passerina (author and date?) I'd also go family to genus, rather than genus to family in opening Done
- Taxa –link? Done
- Mya - is a disamb page, Done
- sister of two sister groups, lose second “sister” (would a cladogram be helpful?)
- Distribution and habitat Mountains? Lowland?
- vagrancy? It’s certainly occurred in the UK, and IUCN redlist has others Done
- The Indigo Bunting often migrates during the night... In captivity, since they number drift Done
- Description .4-.6 = 0.4–0.6 Done
- bill colour? Done
- adult males … the male - is number drift, also check elsewhere Done
- personally, I’d put the vocalisations in description
- sweet-sweet chew-chew sweet-sweet... Each male has a single complex song, How is the described song complex, looks simple enough?
- Behavior using the stars to direct itself. -Navigate? How does it do this?
- Breeding .3 = 0.3 Done
- Indigo Buntings are occasionally victims of brood parasites, - what happens to the bunting eggs/young – do they hatch/survive, or are they destroyed? Done
- It does not drink frequently, generally obtaining sufficient water from its diet. What’s "it"? Done
- Diet The Indigo Bunting forages for food on the ground or in trees or shrubs equally likely?
- In winter, it often feeds in flocks single-species or mixed, flock size? Done
- Conservation Why "conservation" rather than "status", when you don’t actually discuss conservation of this species? Done
- The Indigo Bunting is a bird of Least Concern according to the IUCN, with an estimated range of 5,900,000 km² (3,666,090 mi²) and a population of 28,000,000 individuals. Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for a population decline warranting an upgrade in conservation status. I’d put 5.9 million etc, the conversion suffers from delusions of accuracy, 3.7 million mi² will do Done
- (same bit) Global –why global, it only occurs in NAm? What’s the trend there?
- It also occurs in Central and South America; I suppose that's why the IUCN uses the term global.
- IUCN always says global, even for species endemic to one small island. It only breeds in NAm so better to lose global and just start Population trends...
- (same bit) What are the population decline criteria Done
- missing - average lifespan, predators, diseases, parasites
That'll do for a first read through, I'll check the refs (fixed one that was dodgy) and have another read through when you've had a chance to deal with these comments jimfbleak (talk) 14:00, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry to give you a hard time, but no rush. The ADW ref has some predators. For diseases and internal parasites, there may not be anything, just check. Refs all work but a few comments
- "Indigo Bunting". (All About Birds ref) Why italics for Indigo Bunting, just quote marks I think
- Emlen ref, why html? I’d use the PDF link http://elibrary.unm.edu/sora/Auk/v084n04/p0463-p0489.pdf
- Distribution and Taxonomy of Birds of the World and The Birds of British Columbia What’s the point of links to these? No extract or abstract as far as I can see?

I've had to fail this since no recent changes. If it's fixed in the future, it can go round again jimfbleak (talk) 10:59, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- October update
- I checked the ref with the odd quote marks and removed italics. I presume Jude forgot it was already formatted. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:57, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I changed the ref to the pdf
- Removed links to google books
