, becoming the first European member of parliament elected while in prison [citation needed]

Moldova isn't part of the EU, so it can't be MEP, if it meant MP in Europe then this is also wrong because Bobby Sands was elected in 1981. - FrancisTyers 02:31, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality

[edit]
  • I made the article a little bit more neutral. Still, some sort of biographic data should be included here, beside the "main events".
  • I also removed the second reference to Ivanţoc's site, due to its rather odious comment. Besides, the linked page's content mostly mirrors his case in the European court, a link to which I provided instead.
  • On 2 June 1992 he and other four ethnic Romanians Moldovans
Romanians, Moldovans, or Romanians and Moldovans? Defaulting to Moldovans...

Illythr 01:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Romanian Moldovans" is the correct spelling, because the Moldovans are a part of the Romanian nation, just as the Siberians are a part of the Russian nation. Of course, the small differences between the Moldovans and the rest of Romanians are not so wide as the differences between the Russians and the Siberians, which are considered as the same nation by many people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.105.123.228 (talk) 22:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ilie's Moldovan citizenship

[edit]

Why did Ilie renounce his Moldovan citizenship? Was it a practical necessity, because Romania does not allow double citizenship? Or was it a political protest action, because he had issues over the lack of support from Moldova or disagreements with Moldova of sorts? If the latter, it would be worthwhile to include it in the article. - Mauco 00:45, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Romania allow double citizenship.--188.27.98.111 (talk) 01:20, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I wonder if the sole inhabitant of this category (and, hehe, this one) would object to being called a "person of Moldovan nationality"... --Illythr (talk) 22:15, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Although ethnic Romanian, is this category appropriate since by nationality he is Moldovan? 87.112.89.239 (talk) 10:44, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He has dual citizenship: Moldovan and Romanian. bogdan (talk) 11:33, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
