Started article
[edit]I just started the article by pasting in text from Unification Church. I will work on it some more and, of course, welcome anyone who wants to contribute. Steve Dufour (talk) 19:45, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Opposition section.
[edit]My first idea is to make this section more concise. The ideas of "brainwashing" and "target of anti-cult movement" both belong in one sentence. Then we can think about adding material about the theological opposition, so that we're not just concentrating on the anti-cult movement.Dulcimer music 19:33, 2 January 2013 (UTC)JDefauw — Preceding unsigned comment added by JDefauw (talk • contribs)
Merger proposal
[edit]I've proposed merging this article and Timeline of Sun Myung Moon. The personal story of Rev. Moon and the history of the church are intertwined and there is much duplication between the two articles, both of which are secondary to the two main articles anyway. One history or timeline showing the dates of important events would probably be more useful to interested readers. Steve Dufour (talk) 15:04, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, do it. This sort of stuff is much better merged into the church article, not the bio article, which already contains all the really biographically salient information. -- The Anome (talk) 16:15, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- Let's see what other people say. I informed everyone who worked on this article, plus some people who worked on the other ones.Steve Dufour (talk) 16:59, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- I agree. I don't see the reason to have two parallel timelines. Lots of events are on both. BayShrimp (talk) 01:33, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- I started work. Since we are not supposed to remove material in the merge itself there is a lot of duplicate info. I will get back to it tomorrow. Steve Dufour (talk) 05:03, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- Merge & salt the earth - Going beyond this single case, the interrelated series of Unification articles are not cleanly and clearly organized so that the encyclopedia's users can find what they are looking for and in context. Did you know that the Unification Church has TWO entries at the List of new religious movements? And how many sub & SPLIT articles? I like what Bahá'í Faith has done on that article - there is a great navigation box that allows for easy access on the topics related to the faith. I propose something like that, to bring the information together. EBY (talk) 03:12, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- List of new religious movements is the project of a certain, how should I put it, overly zealous editor who is no longer editing NRM related articles. If you remove the duplicate listings no one would object, I'm sure. BTW Scientology (founded the same year as the UC and with 50,000 to 100,000 members world-wide) has a network of several hundreds of articles, templates, categories, etc. here. (I am topic-banned as well as self-banned so I can't do anything there.) :-) -Steve Dufour (talk) 05:03, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- I also support the merge, and as EBY said there are other spin-off articles that could be merged back to the main articles. The UC template that is now at the bottom of most articles seems to work okay. What is the advantage of navigation boxes on the side of articles? Kitfoxxe (talk) 16:10, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- Just an idea, not attached to my Merge !vote. The idea of something that would ease navigation through the many moving parts of this subject is attractive.EBY (talk) 17:24, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- I would support a merge too. We need to tidy up the mess and make it easier for readers to find content. bobrayner (talk) 12:57, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Future events
[edit]I took off the predictions of future church plans since, as a member, I happen to know that church sponsorship of many projects is being reduced and these events may not happen. Of course when secondary sources report this it can be added to the article. Steve Dufour (talk) 05:16, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
POV
[edit]Note that the lead mentions controversy and criticism but this is not covered in any detail in the body of the article, despite sources being available in the footnotes. A controversy section seems appropriate given the negative attention the subject has received. Flat Out (talk) 05:58, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't see the point of a controversy section on a timeline. Of course more controversial events could be added.Kitfoxxe (talk) 13:38, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
