citations

[edit]

This article needs more citations.Gordonlighter (talk) 19:14, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added a citation for its peroxide reaction but am having trouble finding a good source for its reaction with nitric acid. It's referenced in at least two U.S. patents (http://www.google.com/patents/US2395773 and http://www.google.com/patents/US2525252), but I'm unsure if they're good enough sources. Feedback would be appreciated. korbnep «talk» 21:22, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Medicinal uses section

[edit]

The claims in this section lack medically-appropriate reliable sources and when I took a quick look I found a Cochrane review PMID 17943785 that seems to suggest the evidence is dubious at best. Any sources to support the claims? If not, I suggest that this section be scaled back considerably. -- Scray (talk) 04:55, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems illogical to use this drug as a bladder medication since the formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. It kills bacteria yes, but inflames tissues as its chemical action is not specific to bacteria, the mechanism of action of its carcinogenic potential comes from point mutations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.78.8.171 (talk) 02:03, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Camping

[edit]

Use as camping fuel should be expanded as fuel is very convenient and widely used in mountaineering and some emergency situations but dangerous in confined spaces due to production of cyanide fumes plus other poisons — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.203.255.1 (talk) 11:36, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We avoid, by policy, giving advice or "tips" and the space allocated in the articles is roughly matched to importance. So while campers might like this stuff, the rest of the world would classify, probably, your application as minor. You can imagine what articles would look like if every niche application were described. --Smokefoot (talk) 13:18, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use in the final rinse of photographic film

[edit]

This chemical is sometimes used in the final rinse of film to remove other chemicals, and increase the longevity of the film. My explanation may not be very long or in-depth, however, I am unsure of the exact process. This may be a niche application, however, I think it should be included in the article.
