Episode Missing
[edit]In the list of episodes fifteenth series, one episode is missing:
"O Guilty Man" -- comes between "Burden of Proof" and "Auld Acquaintance"
nb
- I have just added the title to the list of episodes for the fifteenth series. Figaro 10:22, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- OK, but now the numbers do not run to 300, but to 301, which is in opposition to the official numbering ????
- Perhaps the "Christmas Album" is not included in the "official" number system ???? I do'nt know.
- nb
- The updating of the numbering of episodes has also been done now. Figaro 11:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Series Lettering
[edit]I started putting letters on (thanks to whoever fixed my messy formatting!) but I'm a telly scheduler myself and we never use the letters I or O for series -- it goes ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZ. I don't know what comes after Z but Heartbeat's beginning to worry me... I suspect that if I go back and edit all the I's and O's, someone will just put them back again unless I explain here. (SS, Guest User 27.03.2008)
- Sorry, but (a) no reference for these, (b) nothing to say they are official and (c) they certainly do not go where you have put them. They would need their own box, as per the episode list format.--UpDown (talk) 19:01, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, my reference is that I do, officially, do this for a living, but I understand the need to cross-check it with another Wikipedia page. Thanks for your patience, this page is a valuable resource. (SS, Guest User 28.03.2008)
- In fairness you may work in TV, but you that doesn't mean you know Heartbeat's production numbers. And it does need cross-checking with another Wikipedia article, its need an indepedent source.--UpDown (talk) 13:06, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Series 5-15
[edit]Why are these series treated differently than the others? Seems a bit biased to lump them all together like that, almost as if they're somehow "inferior" to the initial and latest series. CzechOut ☎ | ✍ 18:45, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's not that at all. I started doing tables for early series, but its a big job and havent got round to later episodes. The more recent ones have been done as they aired or by other users. --UpDown (talk) 18:50, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Blaketon's Death?
[edit]On the synopsis for the final episode it says Blaketon is fatally injured and possibly won't survive. If he is fatally injured that would mean he doesn't survive (fatal means death). Sorry to clutter the pages up with this but I'm desperate to know if Blaketon is indeed fatally injured and dies?
The article needs some clarity on the fatal word.
- You might want to also ask at Talk:Heartbeat_(TV_series). Knowing ITV, they will probably end the series without you knowing if he lives or dies - just injured - so you have to wait until the next series... Still the actor is 72, so he's not going keep acting for much longer - maybe he wants to retire. Ronhjones (Talk) 21:49, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Article size
[edit]Anyone interested in doing anything about this page's gargantuan size (or discussing possible remedies)? If there are no responses (as this doesn't seem to be a very active Talk page), I may take it upon myself to split the page up into sub-pages, perhaps with five seasons on each. Propaniac (talk) 14:48, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- I've created prototypes of these sub-pages at:

What about actors' names?
[edit]Is it OK to use tv.com (or the ITV/official website) to get the names of actors and characters for each episode? To me, it would seem to be a basic fact - which is not copyrightable under the Berne Convention. But I'll await more qualified advice before populating missing names. Nick4mony (talk) 14:34, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Update - Moonriddengirl supports this position (Discussion) Nick4mony (talk) 12:37, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
In other news, it's showing in Australia at present (digital channel 7-Two, 3 times a week), so I hope to populate episode summaries week-by-week. We're up to "Smile for the Camera" (152) on Mon 29 Aug 2011. Nick4mony (talk) 14:34, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- One more thing: I intend to refactor semi-permanent actor and character names to the start of each series (such as Claire Calbraith/Dr Tricia Summerbee for Series ten), and the permanent actors at the top of the whole article. Any thoughts? Nick4mony (talk) 13:19, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Australian episodes (series 8/9/10)
[edit]There are no dates for Australia on series 8/9/10, but it's currently showing now.
While there's the strong possibility that it has been shown before, I will start putting the dates for the currently showing shows next to the UK dates already there. If anyone knows the date of first showing in Australia (or can get that information from a source without restrictive copyright policies), they're welcome to come in and correct it. Nick4mony (talk) 13:31, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- They are indeed repeat screenings (my parents and I are enjoying seeing the entire series again over the course of 2011), which started not too long after the final episode was shown earlier in the year. If I recall correctly, the initial Australian screenings were included in the Wikipedia episode listings before they got wiped out by the copyright fuss - I am not sure if they are still available for access, or if they are what you're looking for, Nick. I definitely support measures against blatant copyright infringements such as plagiarism, but I find it grossly impractical, nonsensical and a hindrance for Free information for such principles to be also applied to basic information such as actor/actress names and television air dates (this is not a comment levelled at you, Nick). I do hope there can be a sensible and rational balance between protecting copyright holders' intellectual properties and having a pragmatic approach to writing and providing Free information on Wikipedia. As it stands, I mainly resort to imdb.com for information on Heartbeat, nowadays. 60.240.63.57 (talk) 13:56, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Article series set-up
[edit]I have started a discussion on the set-up of the series articles for this programme at here. Please air your thoughts. Keith D (talk) 14:45, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
So many related pages
[edit]Here are so many pages covering various seasons, many of them are overlapping. For instance, we have one page covering series 11-18, plus pages covering 11-15, 11-18 and so on. The "bigger" pages merely contain a list of episodes, whereas the "smaller" pages list a limited number of episodes plus some plot details for each episode. The problem as I see it, is that the several almost identical pages makes it difficult to navigate and find what I'm looking for. It would help with more links linking the pages together, but maybe it also needs to be organized differently so that the number of pages is reduced. I've started adding sections with links on this article, but I leave the "big picture" with organizing to others. Urbanus Secundus (talk) 15:33, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Series 18 Episode table does not display
[edit]After the edit on March 29 by editor Special:Contributions/213.18.146.220, the Episode table for Series 18 does not display. I cannot see what is the problem, so can someone fix this, please? --Blurryman (talk) 19:58, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Blurryman: The article is in category:Pages where post-expand include size is exceeded. There are too many templates for the software to handle. You will have to remove some unnecessary templates or split into two lists. Keith D (talk) 22:47, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Keith D: Thanks for your reply. The problem appears to have been caused by the insertion of the template around each episode title, before which Series 18 did display. Also, the template does not seem to have added any obvious function here. What purpose does it serve, and could it be deemed to be "unnecessary"? I've not been able to find any relevant info in the Help pages, so your guidance would be much appreciated. --Blurryman (talk) 23:32, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Blurryman: It is not a template I have come across. It looks like they are creating an anchor for each of the episode titles so that wikilinks in other articles get you to the appropriate episode. Do not know if any are actually used, I was hoping the IP would have actually gone on to edit articles to use them but they have only added them here and to a related list List of The Royal episodes. It appears to be a common usage for that template, but you could use the anchor created by the episode number as an alternative, though that relies on knowing that when editing the articles that would mention an episode name. The only other template that could be removed is {{start_date}}. Keith D (talk) 01:09, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Keith D: Thanks for that. The article was created in 2006, so presumably nobody has found these anchors to be necessary in all that time, and, as you say, the anonymous editor who inserted them has made no further edits since. As a quick solution to the display problem, which will be causing inconvenience to users, would it cause a serious lack of functionality if I remove them? --Blurryman (talk) 18:48, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Blurryman: I would remove it to solve the display problem and see if anyone complains. Keith D (talk) 19:16, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Keith D: Thanks for the suggestion. Jackomac43 got there before me.[1] --Blurryman (talk) 23:26, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

These disruptive anchors have now been added back by Special:Contributions/213.18.145.207. I first raised this matter when the anchors were originally added on March 29 by Special:Contributions/213.18.146.220, but the only response was from Keith D, above, who suggested that the result of adding them was that "There are too many templates for the software to handle. You will have to remove some unnecessary templates or split into two lists." That kind of stuff is not in my playbook, so is there someone else able to take this on and come up with a solution? --Blurryman (talk) 18:56, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Blurryman: I have done a search to see how many links are affected and found just 2, Peter Wight (actor) & Kevin Doyle (actor). I would suggest changing those 2 articles to use the episode number anchor and revert the IP. May be add a comment to top of article to explain the situation to warn future editors.
- As an aside there are about 8 with broken anchors to section headers as these have been changed at some point, probably due to merging of the individual lists and really need sorting out. Keith D (talk) 12:09, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- As a long shot you could try changing {{va}} to {{visible anchor}}, may be avoiding the redirect will change the expansion size. Keith D (talk) 12:26, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
