[edit]

this article repeats itself several times, the last paragraph looks like something that was originally here and wasn't killed when expanded paragraphs on the same topics were added later. Can someone tidy up? How come nobody has mentioned something about his hand gestures/mannerisms when making gmae decisions? surely this must be pointed out rather than saying "he had a sense of humour".—Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.176.100.94 (talkcontribs)

Football fans

[edit]

Sometimes people's allegiances for football teams are mentioned in their articles. I don't know where to put it in here, but here confirms that he, unsurprisingly, supports Barnsley. matt91486 (talk) 16:09, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't think so

[edit]

Little known is the fact that he inaugurated the Sloggers League at Reading University, which is still in existence today —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnnybriggs (talkcontribs) 22:13, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something wrong in Domestic Counry Record

[edit]

According to the biographical panel, Bird played first of all for Leicestershire (56-59) then for Yorkshire (59-64). But his first first class match is listed as Yorkshire v Scotland. My memory is he started with Yorkshire then moved to Leicestershire. But I don't have his biography to hand to confirm this.

His statue was unveiled and then opened the day after - how do you open a statue? TheOneOnTheLeft (talk) 11:20, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Harold "Dickie" BirdDickie Bird — "Dickie Bird" receives ten times as many hits on Google than "Harold Bird", while "Harold Dickie Bird" receives three times less. – PeeJay 08:47, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agree certainly. Dickie Bird is what he is known as, and Harold "Dickie" Bird is an unlikely search topic, and an ugly-formatted title. SGGH ping! 11:42, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree Universally known as "Dickie". --Dweller (talk) 12:40, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Support per WP:COMMONNAME and the stats above. It's also the name I most commonlyn heard him called. Dpmuk (talk) 13:26, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. One of the criteria in WP:CRIC#STYLE is that we should use the name that is universal usage and this is a good example. --Jack | talk page 17:41, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Support per Dweller and SGGH.—MDCollins (talk) 22:07, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can this be closed per WP:SNOW now, then? Looks like this request will almost certainly pass now. – PeeJay 22:18, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
