Basic Info

[edit]

Seems like this article is missing some basic stuff about him: where & when was he born, marital status, etc. Most such articles have a sidebar giving this basic info. T-bonham (talk) 06:23, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Language/Tone

[edit]

"He has been instrumental in getting the public to recognize its own widespread irrationality toward gays."

This is not even close to neutral language. Perhaps he has had a large influence in shifting public perception of gays/gay culture? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkwoftw (talkcontribs) 05:41, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Homophobia?

[edit]

The information in this article regarding the use of this term disagrees with the article on homophobia itself. Furthermore, it is internally inconsistent: first it states that Weinberg coined the term in his 1972 book, then it says he began using the term in 1966. Which is it? You can't be using a term before it's been coined. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.249 (talk) 22:47, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Britannica seems to credit him with "using the word predominately" in 1972. [1] This seems to imply that the word appeared before but wasn't a fully developed concept with an analytical meaning prior to Weinberg's book. More needs to be done to clarify this. There's a chapter on Weinberg in [http://www.amazon.com/Before-Stonewall-Activists-Lesbian-Historical/dp/1560231920/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=1-1&qid=1427769214 Before Stonewall] and I've added the reference. Jason from nyc (talk) 02:48, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not only does this article need citations, it seems quite out of date. For instance, the "Gay Activists Alliance" he "regularly attends" went out of existence almost 30 years ago. Wbkelley (talk) 03:04, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Earliest sources regarding 1965

[edit]

What is the oldest source we can find regarding statements pertaining to 1965? The only 2 listed here are 2017 obituaries. The NYT only mentions that being the year he gave the speech. Gay Times claimed 1 day later he invented the term the same year he gave the speech even though NYT did not state that at all.

It would be nice to get some primary sources to sort out what NYT and GT are drawing this stuff from. ScratchMarshall (talk) 04:34, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
