Terrible

[edit]

This is quite possibly the worst collab of character profiles ever. A character info should be just that, information about a character, not about what they did in ONE episode. Someone people redo them, and find out whoever messed it up to begin with so they can be dealt with. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DrTheKay (talkcontribs) 17:58, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Can someone please fix the references to properly use {{cite book}}, and to refer to the English volumes not "Tankobon" (which is misspelled). They also need specific page numbers. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 23:53, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't the Targets given a seperate page from the characters?

[edit]

Since some always complain about pages too long, and wish to divide them, why not separate the characters(which list only hunters, not Gantz himself, or other notable characters in the series), from the targets? There is enough information for both to warrant separate pages. Dream Focus (talk) 11:13, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What hunters get listed and which ones do not? Any set standard?

[edit]

You don't list every character ever featured, even the ones that survived more than one mission, or had something notable about them that contributed to the story. What's the current standard for including people? The number of pages they occupied, key roles they played in any arch, number of missions they survived on, featured also in the video games or anime series, etc? I notice the dog and panda bear don't get mentioned, besides being on several missions, the panda still on the team and having gotten some points in the last mission for killing aliens. Dream Focus (talk) 11:18, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think some of them were not mentioned the first time I saw this article but if a character is relevant to the story and has several appearances they can be added. It is also important that the info about the character does not seem fancruft.Tintor2 (talk) 00:33, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

updating

[edit]

Parts of this are almost 6 months out of date, it should be updated. But I inexperienced at adding only vital information. Especially the info on the vampires, and nishi some of which is simply incorrect. Could somebody give me a definition of what to put in so I can bring it up to date? --Lazydragonboy (talk) 09:20, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The new enemy should also be mentioned. --62.226.22.197 (talk) 12:00, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That and the fact that Yoshikazu was killed in the new mission. The teams from other countries and a few other things.Darthwin (talk) 18:16, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jeans Aliens

[edit]

Somewhere in the manga there's a short flashback on a double page of a mission that Izumi paticipated before he got 100 points. According to the Gantz/Manual those aliens are called "Jeans Aliens". Someone should mention them. Maybe someone who understands Japanese could take a look into the Gantz/Manual. --62.226.124.245 (talk) 13:45, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since they didnt a big role, there is no need to mention them.Tintor2 (talk) 14:30, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganizing the list

[edit]

Currently, the character portion is divided into two sections; Gantz players and targets. It's in-universe, and should be changed to something more out-of-universe, as well as something that helps the reader know their role (size-wise) in the series. However, I'm not sure about how to organize them. My preference is this: Central/Main characters/Protagonists, Supporting characters, and then Minor characters. An antagonist section may not work well, just because some characters (such as Nishi, Izumi, Hikawa, Inaba, or Chiaki) change or there are disputes over if some of them are actually antagonistic.

Another problem is just how characters should be divided. Should important Gantz players be placed in the main characters section, or just Kato and Kurono? It's in my opinion that most, if not all, of the sections about aliens should be removed. After they appear, they don't hold much weight as the story progresses. If they were to be kept, it should be under "minor characters," unless combined into one individual section explaining the concept. For now, here's my current idea of what it would look like, which can be discussed and edited, and used as the outline for the final product.

Main characters (Protagonists? Central characters?)

  • Kei Kurono
  • Kato
  • Gantz

Supporting characters

  • Reika
  • Sakurai
  • Sakata
  • Kaze
  • Takeshi
  • Hikawa
  • Chiaki
  • Izumi
  • Suzuki
  • Inaba
  • Nishi
  • Kei Kishimoto
  • Hoi Hoi
  • Osaka Gantz Team
  • Tae
  • Vampire section
  • Section covering aliens
  • Any more?

Minor characters

  • Individual sections on aliens, if kept
  • Recurring characters that play somewhat of a role (Tonkotsu, Akira, Ayumu, etc) (?)
  • More minor Gantz players that appear a few times, but aren't majorly important (Dog, etc) (?)
  • Any more?

So, comments? WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 23:31, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its very good. I wonder I we can add a section for the Gantz (s?).Tintor2 (talk) 01:48, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Adding a section for Gantz would be a great idea; though for the time being I think we should refer to it as an object, and not by the guy inside. Unless it was actually stated that he is Gantz? I can't remember, though, so I could be wrong. The section could also include that more Gantzs are manufactured and being sent to other countries as well. I listed Gantz in the Main Characters section, which seems like it would be correct. It's/He's not really a supporting character. Do you have any idea on how other Gantz players should be split up? Hikawa and Chiaki would definately go in Supporting Characters, even if other Gantz players are moved to Main Characters. They seem important enough to warrant sections, but aren't major enough to be more than supporting characters (for now, anyway). Oh, and should alien sections being merged into a single section? I think it'll be cleaner, and would leave room for more important and recurring characters. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 01:58, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Besides Kurono and Kato I dont think there are more people with such role (I used to think Reika, but Im still not sure. Yep, it would be good to add Hikawa and Chiaki.Tintor2 (talk) 02:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. I'll move them to Supporting Characters. Reika is one of those difficult ones; she is important and has a one-sided love. However, other characters have been given a larger role in the past, just to be killed off or their role slowly dies down. I doubt Reika's is going anywhere soon, what with the latest chapter, but overall I'd say Supporting fits her best. Should Sakuraoka be added to the list as well? WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 10:07, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep I think so.Tintor2 (talk) 11:41, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've added some character sections and reorganized the list a bit. Now what needs to be done is to merge the aliens into one section; it wouldn't be too hard, and all could have a brief mention. Currently, there is a small section devoted to them, which I placed there for the future merge and so I wouldn't lose information on targets. Then I can work on adding character profiles for the Minor Character section. Do you have any suggestions for it? I'm thinking of adding Tonkotsu, Ayumu, Akira, and Dog. The first two continue to appear and are serve as reasons for Sakurai and Kato to live on, repsectively. Akira is Kei's brother, and has a semi-important role for a little bit, not to mention being one of the reasons behind Kei's personality. The Dog seems to be important to some degree, especially since he is the first and on the only animals appearing. By the way, what would we refer to him as here? I believe his official name is Rice, but he was called Butter Dog and often is just called Dog. We could mention all of his nicknames in the passage, but I'm not sure what to refer to him as. Thoughts? WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 22:19, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Adding all the nicknames would be trivial. They should be added only to mark something important in the development of the character.Tintor2 (talk) 22:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A little question: When were Host Samurai and Kill Bill shown their true names?Tintor2 (talk) 22:46, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With nicknames, I meant something along the lines of "Rice, also referred to as Butter Dog or Dog, ..." as it is the setup of other lists. It doesn't matter too much either way, though. I just wonder what his official name is...I can't remember if it was stated in the manga that his name was Rice, but I remember a Japanese magazine article that had his picture and Rice written behind it. But most common name is also used, so would "Dog" be the best option, especially since Rice may have been confirmed in an interview, rather than the series? As for when their names are revealed, I'm not really sure. Hikawa had around for awhile, and has had a few appearances. Chiaki is newer, and I want to say her name was revealed sometime during the Osaka mission...Particularly when she asked Hikawa if he would miss her if she died. Though, it's also possible that it was in an interview or something, and the fanbase refers to them as such. I'll check through the Osaka mission to make sure. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 23:10, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If they are fannames they should be removed and add their nicknames. I remember when working in the manga chapters list that none of the editors changed Host Samurai to another name.Tintor2 (talk) 13:19, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If they are fannames, then I definately agree. If it was in an interview, we can cite it. I'll check around and possibly ask a few people. If they are fannames, then I'll change it to say "Host Samurai" and "Kill Bill," and note that their true names are unknown. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 22:27, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I made the changes of their names. By the way, good work with the article.Tintor2 (talk) 00:22, 3 May 2009
Thanks, and yeah, I agree with the change. I started reading a forum, and a few people referred to him as Hikawa and her as Chiaki, but for most it was HS/Host Samurai and KB/Kill Bill. Considering everyone else was using real names, except for a few instances of "Cherry" and such, I'd say it's a fan-made name. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 01:49, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kill Bill

[edit]

There is something I was wondering. Wasnt the vampire Kill Bill the girl who appeared with Akira Kurono in chapter 228. It is when Akira fights Host Samurai to save a girl (isnt she "Kill Bill"?).Tintor2 (talk) 00:22, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It does look very much like her. I'd say she is; especially sense Host Samurai is seen with her later on, and apparently the subplot of "I'm a vampire but I care about her but I can't admit that" is going on. With that in mind, him fighting over her and not wanting Akira to be with her seems logical. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 01:58, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion

[edit]

Waaay too many opinion words in this article. Lots42 (talk) 08:11, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anzu Yamasaki

[edit]

Seeing as how this character is back, what would be the best way to cover her? I don't like the idea of just pulling one of the Osaka members out for specific writing, but then again there's only one more of the Osaka members that have been seen again by this point. Human.v2.0 (talk) 15:08, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, she is not the only character back. The other teenager who wears glasses (I think his name was never revealed) is also back.Tintor2 (talk) 15:14, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
