Frogtown name origin

[edit]

I am reverting changes made by 100.6.81.19 on May 31st that suggests a different colloquial etymology for the name "Frogtown":

(originally "Fracht-town", a German neighborhood where many railway workers lived, "Fracht" being the German word for "freight")

This etymology is unattested in published books about Saint Paul, and is also fairly implausible (why did these German immigrants use the almost-English-sounding German word for "freight" and then just accept the English word "town"?) All references to this etymology on Google seem recently derivative of this Wikipedia entry. Multiple published sources attest to the "Froschburg" etymology, including the AIA Guide to the Twin Cities, Empson's The Street Where You Live, and even the Frogtown Neighborhood Association's own history of the neighborhood. -Senori (talk) 14:44, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
