Frank Kelly (professor)Frank P. Kelly — Usually "Frank Kelly", but there is already an article with that name. As papers published by Kelly refer to him as "Kelly, F.P." this proposed title, without the qualifier, seems like a better page title to me. Some may know Kelly better from his role as Master of Christ's College, rather than as a professor. — Gareth Jones (talk) 11:47, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Survey

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Oppose. If he is best known as "Frank Kelly", that should be made obvious in the title, which it currently is, and would not be if the suggested new name was adopted, which would imply he was best known as "Frank P. Kelly". If "professor" is not the best disambiguator, then suggest another one. But let's not perpetuate the falsehood that the most common name used to refer to him is "Frank P. Kelly". --Born2cycle (talk) 14:28, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. If "papers published by Kelly refer to him as 'Kelly, F.P.'", why are you proposing Frank P. Kelly instead of F. P. Kelly? In any case, we should use the most common name, disambiguated with parentheses if necessary. It would be a different story if he was better known as Frank P. Kelly.
