Correct details

[edit]

In case anyone is interested in helping sort this - a few things don't fit, and I'm editing them on the record on his page.

At https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/ (assuming he died in New Zealand) a search for Frank Burton between comes up with only a Frank died aged 78 in 1961, and a Frank James Burton died aged 76 in 1967 - also one died in 1945 which I doubt is the correct one. The FJ Burton would have been born c.1891 which fits other info including him playing pro football in 1925 at c.34yrs, and F Burton born c.1883 which doesn't fit, eg playing pro football at age 42 is unlikely.

So for now best fit is born c.1891, died 1967 age 76, name Frank James Burton.

Place of birth. Mexico fits, but Luapagno doesn't come up in any search as existing in Mexico... so am removing that. Cjwilky (talk) 01:18, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've had an email from Steve Marsh (cowriter of West Ham United: The Complete Record and maintainer of theyflysohigh). He's noted that the Mexico birthplace is wrong and that the actual details are Stockport, Lancashire, 17 September 1890. You can see his write-up of this on his website. I see that the original source for Mexico was the Bleacher Report ref (added by @Cjwilky). It's a difficult one as both the Who's Who of West Ham United book and the AFS/11v11 website also put it as Mexico (Luapanso not Luapagno). Stockport is backed up by West Ham Stats though. I'm trying to find something more concrete to cite, but just wanted to make others aware that this is most probably wrong. Nzd (talk) 00:02, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have made contact with @Jacnjil (Jill, Burton's granddaughter) and have had detailed responses from both her and Max Double, a researcher. Steve has also now published a copy of the birth certificate on his website, so we can now say with certainty that the Mexico details are wrong, the result of an error on the census return. I have changed the details accordingly and added a note. Nzd (talk) 22:00, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have just found an article in the Daily Chronicle from 1924 asserting that Frank Burton was known as Bronco because he was born in Mexico SouthampTom (talk) 23:42, 9 November 2023 (UTC) SouthampTom (talk) 23:43, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
