Jaunyary 4, 2011 Train Derailment
[edit]I don't know if this should be included, but there was a train derailment, downtown, when I was working on my newspaper route, with my grandfather, at 1:00am, today. The train(freight) was going pretty fast, between 40-45mph; I was working on one newspaper rack when I heard several loud "clacking" sounds, much louder than what cars usually make when hitting each other from inertia, when slowing down. It wasn't until I heard it, again, that I turned around and saw that the train has stopped. The cars near me were looking fine, still on the rails; I looked down the road, where the train was heading, when I saw that several cars were off the tracks. Luckily, that part of the railroad was in the trench and none of the cars were on the road(s).
I would also add that wstv channel 2 news said we were "startled" by the sound; this is inaccurate. The sound might have been loud, but it wasn't enough to scare me.
