[edit]

I have done a little tidying up of this article. An English translation of the chorus (the repeated final line of each verse) of the original is still wanted, however. I could translate from the Dutch-language version, but if anyone can supply a direct Frisian to English translation it would be much appreciated. -- Picapica 13:41, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Have now added my own translation of the chorus. -- Picapica 11:09, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Origins?

[edit]
Where did it come from? Is the author of the lyrics known? Where does the text first appear? What is the origin of the tune it's sung to? Where was it first printed? Knowing that, we'll get a better idea of what "Frisian" means within its context. 19th century?--Wetman 11:13, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Ok. That is coming very shortly! First, I just wanted to administer a little emergency first-aid to the translation, a number of features of which have been bugging me (e.g. "want of freedom" as a virtue, for instance!) -- apologies to Frisian-speakers: I have for now merely done a quick fix using the Dutch translation as a guide. -- Picapica 18:48, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Origins now added. -- Picapica 08:41, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Now thats informative! Thank you! --Wetman 20:44, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I doubt very much the statement that is it the anthem of western Frisia as a whole (which would then include the region West-Friesland in the province of North-Holland and the province of Groningen). People of Groningen would never sing this song, let alone recognize it as their anthem. As a matter of fact, I find the whole notion of "western Frisia" for the post-medieval period rather imaginary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.125.136.50 (talk) 15:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Circumflex in Title

[edit]

I assuredly think that the Frisian word "âld" has a circumflex in all of its inflections. The title of this song should be "De Âlde Friezen", so I put forth a move request. BrightSunMan (talk) 21:13, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
