Dictionary of Sociology

[edit]

People may find the entry in the Dictionary of Sociology helpful.

Having said that... the "Main readings" section is slightly problematic because:

  • It gives the reply to Tumin as taking place before Tumin's paper! I think it is refering to the reply that occured immediately after Tumin's paper in American Sociological Review, Vol. 18, No. 4. (Aug., 1953).
  • It doesn't give any details of the volume published by Bendix and Lipset, which the disctionary mentions. Hmmm... I can only guess that the book was Social Mobility in Industrial Society by S M & Bendix, R Lipset (1963), based on the authors and date given. The title doesn't quite fit, but it could have been a section within that book.
