Poems

[edit]

Hey all,

One of my favorite performances/poems by D'bi called We Women Are Warriors doesn't seem to be on the list. I think you guys should look into https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSyFtzZikb0

If it's on the list and I missed it my bad. Just thought I would mention it.

new to Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello fellow editors,

I am new to Wikipedia so there are some things I am in the process of properly sourcing as I make my way through the guidelines. The original article was outdated and had a lot of incomplete information and dead links, yet no one bothered to flag it. Yet, entire sections of this rewrite were erased without any valid reason or the chance to provide more information through citations. Unilaterally erasing information on a newly rewritten article is very problematic and actually goes against the purpose of this entire process. For example, in addition to being a dub poet, she is also an actor, and performance artist. There was no citation added to confirm her being only an activist and a dub poet to justify erasing the addition of her other occupations, which are well-documented in all of the works cited below and in the further readings. This unilateral change was unnecessary, as was deleting the section about her style and themes, which is included on the pages of many other artists. There are many things written about this artist, and it takes time to find articles that accurately and credibly speak to the specificities of a long career. I have since obtained some more scholarly articles, and other references that would have provided more citations but since so much has been erased, it will take longer to bring this article up to par. I will be adding them to the document in the form it was originally intended.

It would be appreciated that going forward any issue would be addressed in this talk section and flagged so that I and other folks can have time to discuss what is relevant and to make the edits. I also ask that you comment on the sources as they are provided and flag where they are needed before erasing what is there. Artsboss (talk) 06:48, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, ARtboss, I've restored the templates you removed--much of the article is still inadequately sourced, and parts read as promotional. The deleted sections best exemplified these concerns--the encyclopedia is not intended to function as a promotional venue. I removed this [1] because it was lifted nearly verbatim from Young's website; in addition to content with promotional tone, we do not accept copied or closely paraphrased content. As for some of what remains, this source you've provided [2] does reference debbie young, but I could not find mention of The Anitafrika Method, nor the content it supports here, that it initiates self-recovery through a creative process of performance that grounds broader notions of identity, community, social constructs, and metaphysical concepts, and focuses them into an embodied performance experience. Nothing in the tables of selected works is sourced, and lest articles become resumes, we don't generally include all the work produced by an artist. I did leave messages at your user talk page, and encourage you to read Wikipedia's guidelines. Perhaps most significant is WP:COI; if you're the subject of the article, or have a financial or personal association with the subject, the connection must be divulged.
