[edit]The accompanying map does not indicate various other counties where deep mining has taken place on a substantial scale such as Gloucestershire, Somerset, Cumbria, Leicestershire etc Could do with correcting or replacing. cheers Geopersona (talk) 11:07, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
- Agree totally, both maps are misleading, the red and pink map particularly so. The article could do with some work as well.--J3Mrs (talk) 17:09, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
- The map seems to ahve lost some text. The word "Coalbrookdale" has become truncated. However, the coalfield would be better descried as "Shropshire" or "East Shropshire", which covers both the shallow coalfield at Coalbrookdale and the Hanwood coalfield, worked in the 19th and 20th centuries. Comment
[edit]This history section is very deficient. It jumps completely over most of the history of the industry. While the steam engine was certainly important, it ought to be possible to find a lot more to say about the industrial revolution: the present section hardly even refers to mining. Can we correct the poor English here? this site is terrible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.253.4.8 (talk) 08:09, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Double Peaks?
[edit]In the "Decline" section, these two sentences appear to conflict with each other as written: "UK coal production peaked in 1913 at 287 million tonnes.[2] Until the late 1960s, coal was the main source of energy produced in the UK, peaking at 228 million tonnes in 1952."Landroo (talk) 21:23, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Also the claim that a single modernised pit could produce 700 million tons a year is clearly wrong Northern rocks 10:03, 26 November 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nasty swimmer (talk • contribs)
Subsidy
[edit]The extent of subsidies from the tax-payer are not mentioned in any great detail. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.227.215.97 (talk) 13:42, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
Inflation
[edit]Inflation should be considered. There has been about 9,900% inflation in Sterling since 1/1/1914. Inflation is hard to estimate over so long. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.227.215.97 (talk) 13:55, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Decline in volume
[edit]This paragraph tells us that there were 13 deep mines left in 2012. The very next sentence tells us there were only three. Can somebody help us by resolving that conflict? Is "13" a typo? Were ten pits closed in a very short time between 2012 and an, as yet, unspecified date which should be in that next sentence?Spinney Hill (talk) 09:19, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
