I added the current residency of some of the teachers but I'm concerned that this method isn't necessarily conducive to entry relevancy over time since monks tend to move, though they do remain abbots for quite some time.

Better'n nothin'. They can always be updated. Somebody needs to get transponder anklets on those monks. --Gary D 22:20, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

What naming convention?

[edit]

I see a note above mentioning a naming convention as the rationale for why this article is titled Ajahn Chaa. There are a lot of naming conventions in the english language Wikipedia. What naming convention applies to this article's title? I had thought that, as per the practice for Thai individuals, honorifics were not to be included in title name, thus Bhumibol Adulyadej rather than Phrabat Somdet Phrachao Yuhua Bhumibol Adulyadej and Seni Pramoj rather than Mom Rajawongse Seni Pramoj. Is it true that Ajahn Chah was a cigarette smoker?

[edit]

And perhaps even a heavy one? I know that monastics in the Sri Lankan tradition are permitted to smoke and beleive that this is also true in the Thai Tradition (in fact I am pretty sure of it). 122.148.173.37 (talk) 01:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sound File Formatting

[edit]

There is something wrong with the formatting of the sound file in the rightmost column. Can someone fix this? --1000Faces (talk) 05:54, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The file was deleted some time ago but traces of the sound box were inadvertently left behind by the bot. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:46, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The Wikiquote box on the right down by "External links" contains a link to Wikiquote that is broken. It's basically a link to search Wikiquote for Ajahn Chah, which finds no results.. Digging around I found that the Ajahn Chah page on Wikiquote was deleted, apparently because it wasn't sourced.

Should the box simply be removed? (Sorry I'm not sure about these things - and it is kind of a shame, as I would have liked to see the quotes) UnRheal (talk) 17:01, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

bias

[edit]

There is quite a few weasel words. I have great respect for Ajahn Chah but the praise for him and the Thai Forest Tradition exhibited here is hardly in line with WP:NPOV Wikiman5676 (talk) 18:55, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the article seems to be written from an insider's perspective. Neither of the sources check out as secondary. Good for general information, but not encyclopedic in nature.--Farang Rak Tham (talk) 20:52, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
