Tourism in the world has been on a rise ever since the 1990s when more than half the countries emerged from the shadows of their closed economy and moved towards a better form of globalization and liberalization. It is probably one of those service sectors which is very rarely hurt by economic downturns or recessions. The major countries of the world are all big hotspots for tourism, bringing in huge inflows of foreign exchange. Now,tourism within itself has several categories ranging from pleasure, dark tourim and of course the most famous now which is Business Tourism or what we simply call business travel. In this article,we would highly concentrate on the trends of business travel in the major countries and how it contributes to the economy of each country, and the way business travellers affect almost all the sectors of a country’s economy. To start with, let us consider one of the biggest emerging economies,India. The trend tarted ever since the advent of liberalization and the rise of the super urban business class in the country.Rise in foreign investments ever since 1991 is what led to the increase in corporate travellers within and outside the country. This further led to the rise in huge business hotels, which altogether has become a big industry and of course the the boom in the aviation industryMutual trade relations with major countries in the world have taken a giant leap so much so that India has been ranked among the fastest growing economies in the world. India has caught the eye of the foreign investors who are interested in investing in industries in India. The recent rise of the BPO phenomenon has contributed a lot to the growing number of business travelers to India. With its continuously evolving infrastructure and fabled hospitality India is increasingly being considered as the preferred venue for meetings, incentives, conferences, conventions and exhibitions. Strategic advantage of location and an overwhelming array of destinations are the USP of India. In each of its destinations there are a huge number of hotels in India, which are well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

Few years back,it would have probably been the few metros that were huge chunks of business travel, like Mumbai,Delhi,Calcutta,Bangalore and Hyderabad. However, now with the huge change in the way the world functions, even the economically small state of Uttaranchal is becoming a very big potential spot of business tourism due to its huge availability of tourism spots, which again are a niche for big hotels, resorts and country clubs. http://travel.mapsofindia.com/business-travel-in-india/

The entire new concept of Green Tourism has revolutionized the way an average Indian businessman plans his small journey. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RDebashruti (talkcontribs) 08:16, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose the merger as the mergeto article is an orphan and of limited scope in an encyclopaedia as a stand-alone article.--Petebutt (talk) 04:42, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Not opposed to the idea of merging this article, but against moving it to business travel. It would or should only have a passing mention in the article. A better target is perhaps Airline booking ploys where it would be an integral part of "back to back tickets". Actually I'm surprised to find that there is no Wikipedia article on Airfares, just a link to a brief article about land travel fares. I'm quite willing to start and expand such an article, as I've worked in the industry for years.--Dmol (talk) 06:13, 14 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
