Neutrality of title

[edit]

Coup d'etat is a bit POV... as would be revolution I guess. How about 'revolt', which is more accurate as it was an broad event, not an organized coup by a small number of people. I will move it if no-one objects. Causantin (talk) 14:36, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that would be a good idea. There was a discussion on the Bulgarian Wikipedia and it was agreed more or less that "coup" would be the correct name. "Revolution" is certainly Communist POV. "Coup" is pretty much established usage in Bulgarian historiography nowadays, and it's also uniform with the Bulgarian coup d'état of 1934 and the Bulgarian coup d'état of 1923. I don't see why "coup" would be POV, whether there was a revolution, a revolt or anything, there surely was the coup: "the sudden overthrow of a government by a part of the state establishment". It was more precisely something along the lines of a "coup amidst civil unrest", but that's hardly a good title. Best, TodorBozhinov 14:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Union or Alliance

[edit]

Was it a true "union" with Nazi Germany or just an alliance? Germany never forcefully occupied Bulgaria, did they? best, 194.80.106.135 (talk) 15:00, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bulgaria voluntarily joined Germany. If they hadn't, they would have gone the way of Yugoslavia and Greece and been occupied. Germany was a trading partner and an old ally from WWI. To oppose Germany would mean to be destroyed and to oppose your ally. To make things "better" for Bulgaria, when the German army came to the Bulgarian border on 1 March 1941, the USSR and Germany were still in a state of non-aggression. This meant that by joining the Germans, they were not siding against Bulgaria's "Slavic brothers". When war eventually broke out between the third Reich and the USSR, Bulgaria was caught in an uncomfortable position, and did not send troops to fight in Russia. -- Kndimov (talk) 02:08, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
