Buckler's Hard or Bucklers Hard

[edit]

I wonder why the apostrophe has disappeared? The owners seem to think it needs one [1] and the New Forest can't make its mind up, opting for both options on the same page [2]. The National Parks seem to prefer the apostrophy [3] as do Hampshire County Council, [4] so perhaps the apostophy should return? Warren (talk) 15:58, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It has now been added. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:48, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning of the term "hard"

[edit]

§ History states that the "hamlet possessed access to a sheltered but navigable waterway with gravel banks capable of supporting slipways for vessel construction and launch". Is this the origin and meaning of the "hard" in its name? And is this an earlier sense of the term hard standing, although not mentioned in that article? yoyo (talk) 08:57, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
