@AustralianRupert: I think that the article should now meet the B-class criteria, and as always it's been great working with you here. I'd suggest the following priorities for further development:
More coverage of the decision making that led to this campaign, and especially the Balikpapan landing (which was opposed by much of the Australian Government and military at the time)
Some background on the harsh conditions endured by local civilians during the Japanese occupation
More detail on the air and naval operations
A section on the guerrilla warfare which accompanied the conventional operations. This should probably note the allegations that Australian soldiers allowed the guerrillas to commit war crimes (something Ooi notes but argues probably didn't occur).
More detail on how historians view the campaign (the current view seems to be that the Brunei operation was probably justified, Tarakan probably wasn't and Balikpapan was a significant mistake)
@Nick-D: G'day, Nick, is there anything else you think needs to be added to the article now, and would you be keen to take this to GAN? Also, if you have some time, would you mind taking a look at the Balikpapan article and letting me know if you think there is anything glaring missing from it? Thanks for your time. Cheers, AustralianRupert (talk) 11:36, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to add an extra para on the guerrilla warfare to turn this into a separate sub-section. I'll try to do this today, and will also look in on the Balikpapan article. Nick-D (talk) 23:52, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Nick, I note we both have other articles at GAn, so if you are happy with waiting, I will hold off on nominating this for GAn until maybe later in the week (next Friday maybe). Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 01:49, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
