Ambiguous statements

[edit]

I don't understand these two statements in the last para :

Confederate [losses] about 5,500, almost all by surrender - Does that mean 5500 confederates were captured? If so should it be referred to as "casualties" ?
Although Union losses were high and the victory did not contribute to the capture of Vicksburg...Grant was furious, ordered McClernand back to the Mississippi, disbanded the Army of the Mississippi... - was Grant furious because they had failed to take Vicksburg? It is unclear. The battle seems to be a success but the victorious commander was relieved.

The term "casualties" means the sum of forces that are removed from effective combat status by being killed, seriously wounded, or captured. I have added some background material to explain why Grant was furious. Hal Jespersen 17:34, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, after going to the trouble of adding a background paragraph, I just noticed that on October 6, a vandal had removed the previous two paragraphs on background, which were superior to the one I just wrote. So I have restored the pre-October 6 version, with a few minor link edits. Hal Jespersen 17:45, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Visitor centre?

[edit]

Arkansas Post is one of the locations listed as part of Vicksburg National Military Park. Do they have a visitor centre, guided tours, interactive maps and hotel/restaurant facilities? Valetude (talk) 11:55, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
