[edit]COI Disclaimer: I am employed by Zeo, Inc formerly known as Axon Labs.
This note is to let the community know that Axon Labs recently changed their official name to Zeo, Inc. Here is an article in Forbes that can verify this: [1].
Thank you.

Proposed change
[edit]{{request edit}}
Per my previous note in the discussion, I'd like to ask the editors to consider revising the Axon Labs entry to reflect the new corporate name, Zeo, Inc. Thank you.

Request for Edit/Update to Zeo Wiki
[edit]I'd like to request the editors to consider updating the Zeo, Inc. page to accurately reflect the new product/mission of the company. We're no longer just a smart wake product but have evolved into a personal sleep coach. Please reference this Wall Street Journal article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124451280076496767.html as a validated 3rd party source. Thank you. - I've added a sentence about the new device. Is this along the lines of what you were asking for? ThemFromSpace 20:49, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
How does it work?
[edit]I'm a sleep technician and am curious how this thing is capable of monitoring sleep stages. The official website shows a simple headband, which I doubt is as accurate as exploring-reference EEG electrode derivations. Furthermore, how sophisticated is the scoring software? In my experience, software that scores itself is terribly inaccurate, which is why we still have scoring technicians. Seeing as we have an employee of Zeo talking up this discussion page, I wonder if any specifics of the device's engineering are publicly available to be put on Wikipedia. 173.71.95.164 (talk) 04:59, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- A belated response, after the company closed: Zeo claimed that the device was 75% reliable in distinguishing between states; REM sleep and wakefulness I believe were particularly difficult to distinguish. An independent study (I don't have the reference, writing from memory) found about 66% reliability. More sophisticated equipment is somewhat more reliable, but electrodes only don't allow some states to be distinguished, input of other parameters is required. Users' comments, often on feedback reports on sites such as Amazon (US & UK) suggest that the device simply does not work for some people; it was suggested that if Zeo had provided a sensitivity adjustment the device would have worked for these people. Zeo's response to such reports accepted that the device was unsuitable for some users, who should return it for refund.
The device lists time spent in each of the various sleep states, and a single "ZQ" score which is a weighted average, with, for example, deep sleep affecting the ZQ more than light sleep. The detailed components are available as well as the lumped ZQ.
- ZQ = 8.5×(1×TST + 0.5×REM + 1.5×Deep - 0.5×TIW - #wakenings/15)
- ZQ = Zeo Sleep Score
- TST = Total Sleep Time
- REM = hours in REM
- Deep = hours in deep
- TIW = hours in Wake
- #wakenings = number of times woken
The headband has three dry electrodes, and can (in fact, not stated by Zeo) be replaced by three disposable ECG electrodes with adhesive gel. One of Zeo's researchers produced a video explanation (I haven't yet watched it):
