Referencing

[edit]

Do not put references below the footer text for References or add them with no matching text or reference numbers. You must add the relevant content in the blank sections before adding references. Use the correct Cite template for website references, and fill in the fields in this template correctly for each reference. Ideally this includes an author, article date and publisher. Never just include only a URL. You reference the original sources, not things like 'Researchgate': look at the sources here and on other websites for article authors, dates, publishers, etc. They need to be consistent in format. Use the help resources and Cite templates to add correctly formatted references once the relevant text has been added. See: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Help:Referencing_for_beginners Limelightangel (talk) 09:50, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Structure

[edit]

Pages do not have a section header for 'Introduction'. Create the lead section before other content to avoid duplicating this summary content and any links later. The summary introduction or 'lead section' is explained at: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lead_section Limelightangel (talk) 18:49, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, we created a lead section and it is visible now LIUC2Michelle2 (talk) 14:44, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page style

[edit]

Note the guidelines on Talk page use, including style, structuring the discusions and signing all posts:Help:Talk_pages. Avoid the personal tense where possible and inappropriate language. Talk is visible to other editors, so it needs to be clear who is saying what, and 'we' will mean nothing to them. To sign posts you can use the 1 click option below the editor space, or simply add the 4 '~' symbols manually. You can edit Talk pages to correct your content.Limelightangel (talk) 13:04, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Content

[edit]

Content relevance

[edit]

Diving section

[edit]

This could be much better, without duplicating promotional, unsourced and irrelevant content. It is well-served by acceptable sources with neutral facts e.g. the inclusion of main dive sites, depth, restrictions, etc. It could also be supported with images of diving at this location. An attempt can be made to get permission to use the dive site map at: Santa-Barbara-Channel Anacapa MPAM dive site map Limelightangel (talk) 14:25, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, I fixed the content and we have asked to use the site map that you suggested us to use LIUC2Giovanni2 (talk) 19:55, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Location Section?

[edit]

This page could have a Location section after the lead section, describing the location in detail and supported with an acceptably sourced map. Limelightangel (talk) 14:31, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I added the location section and I will add a sourced map soon. LIUC2Giovanni2 (talk) 15:20, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fauna

[edit]

This section could be developed, particularly in relation to the sealife. While whale routes are mentioned elsewhere that are not mentioned here. The location of the reserve on a whale migration route is relevant to establishing notability in the lead section, and far more relevant than being a factor in commercial boat trip times. Limelightangel (talk) 14:31, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The section has been expanded by adding information about deep-ocean marine life and whale presence in the area. LIUC2Camilla2 (talk) 13:38, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Style

[edit]

See: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Words_to_watch

  • A large amount of inappropriate and subjective style has been removed ('boasts', 'excellent', 'unfortunately', etc.) but some remains
  • content promoting commercial enterprises (boat trips) has been removed but some remains e.g. "Embark on guided sea cave adventure trips with Wild Blue Adventures for an exhilarating and immersive experience exploring the captivating marine caves."; "- You can rent kayaks from the Channel Islands Kayak Center and bring them aboard the Island Packers boat. Anacapa Island, characterized by cliffs and lacking a beach in the landing area, offers a unique kayaking experience. Kayaks are unloaded from the boat to the landing dock, then lowered to the water by rope. To access the kayak, visitors descend a ladder. Upon completing the kayaking adventure, kayaks must be pulled back up to the landing dock before the return of the Island Packers boat for passenger and kayak pickup. " This content also has an incorrect link out, subjective phrasing, irrelevant content, lacks acceptable sources and has minor format issues.
  • the section on Special Opportunity has the same multiple issues and needs removing or rewriting.

Limelightangel (talk) 13:51, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the recreational activity section in general. I hope it is correct now. Thank you so much for all the information LIUC2Giovanni2 (talk) 19:59, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]
  • the image of Catherderal Cove needs relocation from the lead section to a relevant section, and locating better for the adjacent text (justification). The image caption can be related better to the page topic. See: Help:Pictures
  • if the template allows it the caption on the Infobox image needs improving from 'NPS anacapa-island-map'
  • the sea kayaking image needs a page relevant caption, including the location as Ancapata
  • the sea kayaking image needs better positioning to fit the relevant adjacent text section.

Limelightangel (talk) 14:09, 24 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The images have been fixed. The pictures that were not necessary have been deleted whereas others, more suitable, have been added. LIUC2Camilla2 (talk) 18:22, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking

[edit]
  • duplicate link removed (to Ancapata)
  • duplicate links remain to be corrected
  • the section on Wildlife Tours and Birdwatching has overlinking in the header, extensive overlinking in the text, and duplicate links in the text. It has an incorrect section header format, no sources and inappropriate style e.g. 'visitors are treated to', 'Lucky visitors may even have the chance', etc.

Review 4/12/23

[edit]
  • several sections with large text block with only a single source, rather than brief synthesis from a broader range of relevant sources i.e. Regulations'; Cultural History; Local Fauna;
  • the page needs the addition of correct See Also, External links and Categories. See:
  1. Help:Categories
  2. Wikipedia:External_links
  3. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#"See_also"_section
  • use consistent format for all dates, numbers and measurements e.g. '11 mi (10 nmi; 18 km)'; '
  • consider incorporating conversion of units of measurement, including distance, heights and temperatures e.g. '11.5 square miles '; '700 feet below sea-level'; etc. See: Help:Convert
  • linking out: the convention is to link out the first time the linked text is included, and then not duplicate the same link e.g. 'kelp forest';
  • missed links out: metabarcoding; Environmental DNA; etc.
  • structure: the lead section should briefly summarize the whale route migration as a notable fact (added this 1 sentence) but then put the detail in the relevant section, in a subsection under fauna.
  • grammar: 'During this period is it possible'; 'Ships will be permitted to navigate' (tense); 'is required too, this allows not only to'; 'the back side of Anacapa,';
  • style: 'possible to admire the mammals'; 'a captivating human history.'; 'However'; 'Furthermore'; 'Similarly'; 'Additionally'; 'have the chance to admire'; 'offers a unique kayaking experience.'; 'the kayaking adventure,'; 'The crystal-clear waters around Anacapa Island provide a clear visibility of the ocean life several feet below the surface. ';
  • content relevance: there are issues with content relevance to this page as opposed to pages on Ancapa Island and Channel Islands National Park. The entire section on Cultural History relates to Ancapa Island, not the ASMR. There is no clear connection between this content and ASMR. The text 'Anacapa Island, characterized by cliffs but lacking a beach in the landing area, offers a unique kayaking experience.' relates to the Island, not the SMR. It should be removed, moved to the Ancapa Island page, or substantially reduced and related the the draft page topic. It needs more content on the actual SMR.
  • Location: overly duplicates information on Anacapa Island which needs to be reduced or related better to the reserve location.
  • overlinking/irrelevant/duplicated linking e.g. 'Tidepools' (also duplicated later); 'Gray whales'; 'reef'; 'cliffs'; 'shoreline'; 'Arch Rock' (duplicated, and does not link to a page); 'kelp forest'; 'park rangers'; etc.
  • structure: the section on Research Studies is a mixture of park monitoring procedures and independent research. These could be structured better, or the former placed in a missing section on park management and administration.
  • History: the following text (and the accompanying image) belongs in Location: "The reserve shares a northern border with the federal Anacapa Island Marine Reserve and a western border with Anacapa Island State Marine Conservation Area. ".
  • structure - Natural History: this section is a mixture of content on the establishment of the park, location and natural features, rather than 'History'.
  • structure: Wildlife and Birdwatching includes content on whale watching.
  • the section on Fauna could be subdided in to birds, fish and whales, or similar.
  • Special Opportunity should be renamed as educational Programs, or similar.
  • refs. 17 and 18 are identical and need the use of ref name to create multiple citations to a single reference.
  • several references have no authors, dates, etc.
  • reference 16 link does not work and is incorrectly formatted.
  • all 3 images are irrelevant to the page topic; the page needs relevant images on the topic.
  • the page does not clearly clarify the relationship in terms of boundaries, administration and purposes between the topic and Ancapa Island Marine Reserve, Anacapa Island State Marine Reserve, Channel Islands National Park ('is part of'), and Ancapa Island Marine Conservation Area. A clear description and map of ASMR could help.

thank you for the feedback, we have fixed most of the problems and we are looking forward to adjust the last details. We are having some issue to find good picture but I think we can fix the problem as soon as possible. Thank you again. LIUC2Giovanni2 (talk) 08:30, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Review 11/4/23

[edit]
  • c.20 edits made
  • external links need better clarity and format
  • See also links could be much better
  • link out to channel islands and tidepools are incorrect; former is wrong pages, second is a link from a named place (Tidepools) to a topic (tidepools)
  • location contains content duplicated from lead section
  • Errors in bold: 'The marine reserve starts from Arch Rock, the extreme est point of East Anacapa, and ends at tidepools, on the east part of West Anacapa.'
  • ' It is one of the thirteen Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). ' 13 where? in this area? in the US? in the world?
  • grammar inconsistencies: 'special closure', 'Special Closure' - which is it?
  • 'special closure' could be defined
  • duplicate links out - link out, where first used
  • link out to PISCO omitted
  • several relevant but omitted facts/sources are available via Google Scholar
  • the image caption for wreck diving can explicitly say it is the paddle wheel of the Winfield Scott
  • 'the back side of Anacapa'?
  • is Arch Rock a 'sea cave' or a coastline Natural arch?
  • image captions: 'An Harbour seal'; the gray whale caption needs image caption changing from 'spotted' to 'surfacing' (style) Limelightangel (talk) 13:24, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all these information, we will provide to fix all these problems as soon as possible. I still don't understand how I can change "the marine reserve starts at... east point... ends at tide pools". should I use different verbs or use gps coordination rather than "arch rock and Tidepools"? Review 14/12/23

[edit]
  • 35 edits made since 11/4
  • earlier feedback has not all been addressed
  • missing links out from the lead section
  • some key content in Location belongs in lead section
  • some content in lead section is too detailed and belongs in other sections
  • lead section could more succintly identify notability
  • grammar: 'Marine protected areas (MPAs)'; 'a major importance';
  • inconsistent grammar:', The Anacapa State Marine Reserve'; 'Special closures'; 'Special Closure'; 'special closure. '; 'Grey whales'; 'Gray Whales'; 'the Channel islands' 'the Channel Islands'; etc.
  • duplicate and inconsistently formatted content: 'established as one of 13 Channel Islands[5] Marine Protected Areas'; 'Anacapa State Marine Reserve (SMR) is one of the thirteen Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) of the Channel Islands National Park.'; etc.
  • duplicate and incorrectly located content on special closures
  • relevant linked text has not been created at its first occurence
  • style: 'unique'; 'A scientific article written by scientists working with the National Park Service states that'; 'have the chance to look'; 'but lacking a beach'; 'the iconic'; 'potentially strong'; 'participants can learn more about';'A diver finds'; 'bracing on the'; etc.
  • the section on Translocation of Groundfishes from Oil Platforms Sites to Anacapa State Marine Reserve needs re-wrinting, substantially reducing, and the sub-heading removed or re-written
  • incorrect and inconsistent grammar: 'the Kepl forest'; 'kelp forest'; 'the Kelp'; etc.
  • obvious links in are missing
  • link out to PISCO omitted
  • several relevant but omitted facts/sources are available via Google Scholar
