When the article claims "the oldest independent law school in the United States" it is unclear. Independent of what? a church? The article states that ALS is a part of Union University, so it can't mean independent of a university. Racepacket (talk) 22:18, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree with this sentiment exactly; it is extremely unclear what the 'independent' claim is in relation to. My suspicion is that it was just lifted from some university literature somewhere. It needs to be better explained, or else removed. Particularly in combination with the fact that the claim has yet to draw a credible citation, the whole sentence is looking increasingly problematic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.1.95.199 (talk) 14:12, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you'd read the article :) The "Union University" affiliation came decades after Albany Law's founding. Although I am not sure of what it is supposed to be independent, either. It was one of the first, if not the first law school in North America, by the current definition of "school." 210.22.142.82 (talk) 07:42, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Faculty

[edit]

Several faculty have been added or removed to the notable list over the past year or so without any discussion here. Those with freestanding Wikipedia entries that have passed the notability guideline seem clearly to belong, but I'm not sure what the basis for inclusion of those without a page is (e.g., Prof. Farley). Minimally, a reference supporting notability beyond a link to the law school's webpage should be required. Otherwise, I'm inclined to remove. Disclosure: I am an alumnus of the law school. This article reads like an advertisement for the school. Why does it push the 2006 bar exam data? Probably because of the subpar performance that has occurred recently. Their website lists the first-time takers bar passage rate as 82%. The "extensive access to internships and job opportunities" line is way overblown as well. Yes, fix that advertisement problem, hurts credibility. This page may get more visits now because its Megyn Kelly's alma mater and she's been promoted @ Fox News and they're hyping her. 173.210.125.42 (talk) 18:16, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
