Ambiguity in lead

[edit]

I think the following sentence in the lead may have some abiguity: Owing to security issues in their respective countries which leaves either nation unable to host home matches, this match was held at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

From what I understand, this match was scheduled in the UAE because that's where Pakistan were playing England for a home series. As far as Afghanistan are concerned, they visited Pakistan not a long time ago and played Pakistan A, thus becoming the first foreign team after the Sri Lanka attack incident to officially play inside Pakistan. They also participate in Pakistani domestic circuits (including in the T20 cup, where they're represented as the Afghan Cheetahs), so touring Pakistan is not really a problem for the Afghan team. I think the sentence may need to be modified, as it currently sounds like Afghanistan can't visit Pakistan because of security concerns which is not entirely true. How about moving in the sentence about Pakistan playing England right after the article's opening sentence, so as to clarify that this match was scheduled during Pakistan's series with England (and hence the reason for the match being held in the UAE)? All good, I've been a bit busy recently too, having being bogged down with university-related stuff :) But I'll be around hopefully today and tomorrow to do as much as I can. Mar4d (talk) 02:40, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Miscellaneous

[edit]
  • Just wondering, the article has photos of Afridi and Younis Khan.....would it be reasonable to accommodate an image of an Afghan player somewhere too? I was thinking about Karim Sadiq since he top scored with 40 runs... what do you think? Mar4d (talk) 01:56, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • At some point, the lead will also need a summary of the article. At the top of my head, maybe something like: Afghanistan put forward a modest total of 195 after being bowled out in the 49th over. Pakistan went on to win the match comfortably by seven wickets with thirteen overs to spare. The game was seen as significant for Afghanistan, a team which was marking its entry into world cricket. I'll try to play around with the words to come up with something better, but suggestions are welcome. Mar4d (talk) 02:29, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • It would be a case of trying to accomodate Sadiq in the body of writing without making it too cluttered. I was wondering how you would feel about adding player pictures in the squads table. I'm divided on the idea, seeing as some players do and some don't have pictures, so for the purpose of completeness, it probably wouldn't work - but one to throw out there nonetheless. I'm pretty busy with work, but we'll slowly get there! AssociateAffiliate (talk) 21:34, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]

I majorly suck with leads (Dominic Cork, Rose Bowl and United Services Recreation Ground) just some examples of how poorly I rate my lead writing abilities! Is it ok to leave the lead for you to write? I think you'll do a far better job than me! AssociateAffiliate (talk) 21:37, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
