To meet the more rigorous criteria of the revised B class, this article needs improved sourcing. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Assessment for additional information on B class in album articles. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:15, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Making a Big Mistake

[edit]

I'm removing the claim that Rutherford did lead vocals on "Making a Big Mistake". It took me a while to get around to it, but I sat down and listened to "Making a Big Mistake" three times over, and not only does that not sound like Rutherford singing, the voice sounds so unlike his that I can't imagine it could possibly be him. Neither the "Against All Odds" single nor the soundtrack album provide any performance credits, either. Without a source substantiating that Rutherford did that lead vocal, I can't see any reason to leave in that claim.--Martin IIIa (talk) 19:11, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm restoring the sentence about Rutherford doing lead vocals on "Making a Big Mistake." Sure, the singing is better than on "Acting Very Strange," but I can recognize it as Rutherford's voice. He is clearly more practiced than before (as were fellow Genesis instrumentalists Steve Hackett, Tony Banks and Anthony Phillips after their initial lead vocal attempts), besides hiding behind reverb somewhat; even so, a little of his earlier vocal weakness does show through (listen to the word "mistake"). If it were someone else singing, the song most likely would have been credited to "Mike Rutherford with so-and-so." Also, keep in mind that "Making" was Rutherford's next solo release after he sang on "Acting Very Strange" and came before Mike + The Mechanics where he no longer sang. At any rate, there seems to be no source anywhere claiming that it's anyone but Rutherford, much less naming an actual suspect for who it might be. It's like any claim that it's not Rutherford would need to be proven. --Ftg3plus4 (talk 20:13, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the response, but your last statement is completely false; the WP:BURDEN of proof is always on the inclusion of material.--Martin IIIa (talk) 03:43, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, searching online I can find pretty much universal acknowledgement that the vocals are by Rutherford (with nary a hint that it might be anyone else). Unfortunately I can't find anything that appears official enough to use as a citation. Perhaps no one thought official confirmation was needed... --Ftg3plus4 (talk 10:50, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly are these sources you've found saying the vocals are by Rutherford?--Martin IIIa (talk) 12:15, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Revisiting this matter, I've found a source that should serve as a citation. Will be adding.--Ftg3plus4 (talk 14:01, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
