"In bestowing group histories and honors on wings, Department of the Air Force directives noted only that bestowals are temporary. Over the succeeding years, the Air Force formulated more specific rules governing temporary bestowals of histories and honors. Currently, the bestowal of a combat group's history and honors to a wing follows these guidelines. Bestowal:" ... "5. Is temporary and a. Becomes effective upon activation of the wing. b. Terminates if ... (2) The wing is inactivated."

If anybody is interested in taking up the task, the entire article is in error. The 345th Bomb Group and the 345th Bomb Wing are two different entities. They did not co-exist as active organizations at any point in their separate histories. During the brief period that the wing was active, it did indeed have the lineage and history of the group bestowed on it, but that bestowal by Air Force policy (cut and pasted above) ended when the wing was inactivated. This article needs to be revamped into a necessarily brief article for the 345th BW, and a separate article created for the group.--Reedmalloy (talk) 14:00, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely correct, so far as it goes. But the group and the wing were consolidated in 1984. Later edits have noted this and the article is now correct. Lineagegeek (talk) 23:27, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
