General

[edit]

Lead

[edit]
  • Considering merging some sentences together instead of having the lead made up of all short sentences (e.g. "The event featured 64 players from the World Snooker Tour. It featured three rounds of round-robin groups of four.")

Tournament format

[edit]
  • How about linking the term without an audience to Behind closed doors (sport)?
  • Wikilink Leicester on the first instance it is mentioned
  • "meaning that the players and officials did not need to leave the venue for the duration of their involvement once they had arrived." - repetition of "venue"
  • Wikilink the first mention of table to Billiard table
  • "The competition began with 16 rounds of group matches, each group consisting of four players." - with each group
  • "All matches were played as best of four frames" - best-of-four
  • Wikilink break to the relevant article

Group stages

[edit]
  • "David Gilbert drew his second match against Jak Jones, but won his match against Stuart Carrington 3–0 to progress," - repetition of "match"
  • "The final match of the group between Jamie Clarke and Jordan Brown, had Clarke win, with Jordan requiring a 3–0 win to progress." - this sentence doesn't appear to be grammatically correct. Please rewrite it
  • "Both Ronnie O'Sullivan and Tom Ford won groups on 5 June; with O'Sullivan not losing a single frame." - the semi-colon is not needed. A comma is more appropriate
  • "Ben Woollaston won group 8, but spent the tournament estranged from his wife Tatiana Woollaston, who had been refereeing the event, but was not allowed to be in contact due to the social distancing rules." - the text in bold appears to be unneeded
  • "Barry Hawkins won group 7," - The KentOnline source "Live snooker back on our screens" doesn't mention Hawkins won group 7 but "Major challenge next for Kent's top potter" from the same work does
  • "The 2010 World Snooker Championship winner Neil Robertson" - while factually correct, Sporting Life doesn't mention he is the 2010 world champion but as a former world champion
  • "opening match to Ashley Carty, with Carty winning the group." - repetition of "Carty"

Winner's and final groups

[edit]
  • "before winning 3-1 against Same Craigie." - typo; should be Sam
  • "against Same Craigie. Craigie defeated Stuart Bingham in his first match," - Try not to have the last word of a sentence start the next one like this
  • "Brecel missed hitting a red ball on three occasions, 'and forfeited the frame." - forcing him to forfeit
  • "in which he went on to win with two other draws." - the word in bold is not needed
  • "two other draws. In the final match" - these two sentences need to be separated by a space
  • "against Barry Hawkins, Day required to win one frame," - Day needed to win one frame to go through to the final group,
  • "to finish the group in fourth on two points." - better; the group fourth with two points.

References

[edit]
  • Be consistent in how the works and publishers are presented
  • Some of the references are missing the dates they were published and the authors who wrote them
  • The first part of the titles in References 28 and 29 should not be all in capital letters per MOS:ALLCAPS
    • I think I've got all of these now, let me know if I've missed any! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:58, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Lee Vilenski: Refs 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 19, 21, 22, 23, 27 and 28 are missing the dates they were published. The title for Reference 21 is incorrect; it should be rewritten to its correct title "Barry Hawkins will face world champion Judd Trump in the next round of the Championship League snooker tournament". The same source's author is also wrong; it should be Luke Cadwell not David Cawley. MWright96 (talk) 19:15, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • In the title of Reference 14 ""Chinese snooker player Liang Wenbo reaches last 16 at Championship League - Xinhua | English.news.cn"" the text highlighted in bold is redundant. MWright96 (talk) 19:15, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please be consistent in how Sporting Life and Eurosport are written in the references (e.g. most mentions of the former source are written as Sportinglife.co.uk whereas Ref 16 is written as Sporting Life) (another e.g. Ref 8 is written as Eurosport.co.uk while Ref 12 is written as Eurosport UK). Am going to put the review on hold to allow the nominator to address/query the points raised above. MWright96 (talk) 13:27, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review MWright96 - I've covered the above Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:58, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
