Best-selling games of all time?
[edit]The source for this list is pretty weak. This article is much more well-researched: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games 24.68.38.163 (talk) 11:57, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Not other Release dates?
[edit]Is this page for americans onlybecause all I see is that the dates are american and doesn't include other countries(other english speaking countries eg.UK) this part of Wikipedia is english so why dont you include Australias and UK's. Is this site american?
- Feel free to include other release dates. The sites I go to for release dates are American websites, so the only place I can get other release dates is from Wikipedia. If you can find other release dates, then feel free to include them. bob rulz 15:56, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually 1 release date is more than enough instead of two. The title of the application will have two dates. It is not so difficult to click on them and view their release on the page instead of adding them in the list of so many application. --SkyWalker 08:28, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- If they're very close to each other (as in, the normal few days difference), then I agree. Otherwise, other release dates should be included. bob rulz 00:23, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- If the release dates are far. Next to title they should either a flag of the country to be released or the country name. I think putting country flag is more colorful than text. --SkyWalker 02:04, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps a note should be included informing the reader that these dates are the North American release dates or something similar so others from Australia and Europe, like myself, don't get the dates confused. --Phill talk Edits 12:18, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay my disclaimer has been tampered with so I'm putting it back up. Please do not remove the disclaimer unless you wish to mislead the public into thinking that games worldwide only follow US release dates. Saying "Regional release dates differ" is insufficient since Japanese release dates are listed along with US release dates but no European or Australian ones are listed at all for example - giving the impression that the unmarked release dates, are global release dates - which is incorrect and also confusing to readers. This has nothin to do with whether the target audience are gamers or not - it's to do with providing accurate information. --Rambutaan 00:04, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

NOTABLE Releases
[edit]The list of releases needs to be weeded... this is not a list of all releases, only major ones. We should probably aim to list a maximum of 20-25 games released the whole year. Miles Blues 20:21, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Define "NOTABLE". It's extremely difficult to control something like this, considering the nature of Wikipedia. 81.86.52.112 00:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- 20-25 games? There's more notable games than that. While some of them listed arguable don't need to be mentioned, 20-25 games is an extremely short list. bob rulz 01:31, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'd also disagree with cutting down on the list size (unless you want to replace it with a category or remove the list entirely - another discussion). However, I'd prefer the no-redlink rule - if it's notable enough to warrant an article on wikipedia, it's notable enough to be on the listing. This is the same method used to keep the year articles in check (e.g. 2007 and the like). --Sigma 7 02:05, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Also, an issue would be this: Who decides what is Notable and what isn't? There'd just be edit wars between disagreeing parties. 81.86.52.112 19:25, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- The red link vs. blue link is at least some kind of definitive method. I can't really think of any other objective way. We can't go on projected sales because Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and hype, previews, and polls don't really do much for us either. Useight 20:55, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Just thought that I'd add my two cents. Look at the year 1998 in video gaming. It's widely considered to be the best year in gaming (StarCraft + SC: Brood War, LoZ:OoT, Unreal, MGS, Fallout 2, Grim Fandango, Half Life, Baldur's Gate, too name the ones I cared about) and as far as I can tell, 2007 may just top it. We obviously don't know how these games may impact the future and that will take some time to tell. I mean how was anyone to know back then that Pokemon would become the disease it is today? Either way this list is too long and at the moment includes titles not worthy of the list. How do I know this? Well they were bad titles and we can't say if they will have a future impact on gaming or gaming culture. I mean I coudl write an article about the worst game of 2007 for wikipedia, would that make it a notable release? No. We could use metacritic or gamerankings to determine whether or not a game is worth it. We can't determine impact, but we can determine greatness. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.136.181.178 (talk) 19:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think we can all agree that there are a number of entries on that list that are not as notable as others. Indeed, as is mentioned above, determining whether a game is notable or not by its reviews is one method of determining what should be on the list, but is by no means the only one. If we look at the year 1998, there is no doubt a handful of titles that go on to establish some of the most respected franchises in modern gaming; but of equal importance is that each of them was highly acclaimed by critics when they came out. Starcraft/Brood Wars was the first RTS to have 3 very distinct races, and balanced them almost perfectly. Half-Life was praised for its innovations in presentation, and Ocarina of Time was given perfect scores by every major publication. Without a doubt, there are gaming websites and magazines that some people favor over another, but when all of them give universal praise for a game, it's a notable release. It may be true that we cannot predict which titles will, in a decade's time, exert an influence over future games, but this list isn't attempting to list the greatest games of all time; instead, it's simply a list of the more notable-important, well-received-titles of the year.
- So I'm going to be bold and begin weeding out the entries in this list. I will list those games which have been removed below; if there is any objection to them, feel free to add it back onto the list, but be sure to make a note of which game is back, and perhaps a short explanation of why. Digiwrld1 (talk) 22:02, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Here are the games which have been removed. Games were removed for the any of following reasons: a) Mediocre/unfavorable reviews (exceptions: highly anticipated titles); b) ports from one system to another that were standard fare; c)standard licensed games; and d)expansion packs that are not notable in terms of sales/critical praise

The list above may look exhaustive, and a game or two that you may have enjoyed may appear above, but please, please give it considerable thought before adding it back onto the main list. The front page list, even now, is still 4 times larger than it should be. Now that 2007 has passed and the fervor of the fall season has died, its important to take a step back and closely examine the list so that we can make note of those games which pushed the boundaries of gaming. -Digiwrld1 (talk) 23:53, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Dates:

Dates Pt. 2
[edit]Maybe you guys should pay more attention to the dates listing. Final Fantasy Tactics "Sensho" is also now named "The War of the Lions". And is expected to release October 9th. Zeta26 09:11, 22 September 2007 (UTC).
Adding Dates Early
[edit]I know you guys want to add dates onto the dates released list. But guess what? It hasn't reached that date yet. So until it does, or midnight rolls around. The dates will remain the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeta26 (talk • contribs) 01:15, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
About Dates (Once Again)
[edit]How come you guys are adding dates early to the released list, hmm? We have not yet reach the date yet. But yet you guys insist of putting up the dates ahead of schedule? Why is that? And why are games being deleted from the Expected Release lists? Some of them have already been confirmed (or have been released already). Such as Hot Wheels: Beat That Zeta26 19:16, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
It's called "notable releases" for a reason.
Separation
[edit]Can we seperate it into categories? For example Notable releases in PC, Wii, Xbox, etc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.172.4.43 (talk) 11:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Apparently that's not happening. Either that or some (unnamed editor) is changing the stuff that we put up.Zeta26 23:49, 09 October 2007 (UTC)
About deleting entries
[edit]Do not delete game entries once they have been given an official date.Zeta26 23:51, 09 October 2007 (UTC)
Events
[edit]I've noticed that under the event heading, there is a section about the release of three Naruto games. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that three games coming out on one day to be listed as an event. An event would most likely be a console price drop or acquistions by other companies. If there are no good reasons to keep it, I will remove it in 24 hours. Otherranch 23:40, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
consider adding publisher to notable releases?
[edit]significant to note who is publishing what, etc. Tehw1k1 23:05, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Not Organized
[edit]Whoever entered dates past November 12. But listed them as being November 6 should know better. If you want to add dates that go with November 6's release. Then just add to November 6. Do not add another list stating November the 6th's release.Zeta26 09:09, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- And Nintendo DS or any other gaming system is supposed to be coded with this >. This' Nintendo DS' example NDS . Not Nintendo DS . Zeta26 09:19, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
