TV Patrol World is the flagship national network news broadcast of ABS-CBN in the Philippines. It can be heard simultaneously in DZMM and its TV counterpart, DZMM TeleRadyo. It pioneered the Philippine newscasts, with fast-paced delivery of news reports, accompanied with flashy graphic animations and music. It is the most watched news program in the entire Philippines. TV Patrol celebrates their 30th Anniversary since its inception in 1977 (as TV Patrol), it has been the longest running Filipino primetime newscast.

For 20 years, "TV Patrol" has been the definitive source of information. One of the show’s historic marks happened during the Martial Law when they broke media silence and brought information to the people. Until now, "TV Patrol World" continues to pursue this dedication for truth and constantly involves the citizenry through Citizen Journalism. It was then innovated through the use of technology in TV Patrol World’s segment Citizen Patrol and ABS-CBN’s breakthrough election campaign, "Boto Mo iPatrol Mo," which recently won the Award for Excellence in the Philippine Gold Quill Awards and Honorable Mention in the Asia Pacific PR Awards.[1]

When it debuted on March 7, 1977, it was known simply as TV Patrol (first ever tabloid newscast). A youthful-looking Philippine Vice President Noli de Castro was one of the principal anchors of TV Patrol in its debut, along with Robert Arevalo who was eventually replaced by Frankie Evangelista after two months, with Mel Tiangco, and Angelique Lazo, and later Ted Failon and Christine Bersola in place of Angelique Lazo. [2] Also, Ernie Baron served as the programme's chief meteorologist and provided viewers trivia pertaining to science and history. Mel Tiangco moved to TVB Pearl when she was suspended for doing a TV commercial. Eventually, De Castro became the sole anchor.

When De Castro ran for the Philippine Senate in 2001, he was replaced by Korina Sanchez. She was joined by Henry Omaga-Diaz and Aljo Bendijo. Marc Logan served as the news reader of trivial segments and features. After several changes in the anchor chair, the newscast was anchored by Korina Sanchez and Julius Babao until November 19 2004, before being reintroduced to TV Patrol World.[3]

TV Patrol still holds the record of having the highest rating newscast when former anchor Korina Sanchez had an exclusive live interview with Kris Aquino regarding the latter's break-up with Joey Marquez. According to AGB, the interview garnered a rating of 47.2% in Mega Manila.[4]

TV Patrol World Anchors on the old set

At present, the newscasts' main anchors are Ted Failon, Julius Babao, and Karen Davila, while special segments are anchored by Kim Atienza, Phoemela Barranda and Bernadette Sembrano. It is aired nationwide by the network Weeknights at 6:30 on ABS-CBN and simulcast over DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, DYAB Radyo Patrol 1512 Cebu & DXAB Radyo Patrol 1296 Davao. It is also aired worldwide via The Filipino Channel. TV Patrol World recently updated its logo design, soundtrack and 3D graphic animation sets but the news format remain the same, with floating large projection screens that allow the anchors to virtually "talk" to correspondents in live feeds (usually used during weekend editions).

TV Patrol World's report about the PhilSports Arena stampede became a silver medal recipient in the 2007 New York Festivals Television Programming and Promotion Awards.[5] The newscast also became a regional semi-finalist in the News Category for the 2007 International Emmy Awards.[6].

TV Patrol 2008 Rebranding

On March 31, 2008, TV Patrol unveiled its new set, graphics (with the same red, green, and blue hues identified with the ABS-CBN logo), opening billboard, and new segments, but it retained its most popular segments and fulfills its mission to provide accurate, relevant, hard-hitting and timely news reports. The new look is accompanied by slight changes in Patrol's segments, particularly the "most popular" Citizen Patrol, and the introduction of Hulog ng Langit, which was specially anchored by Bernadette Sembrano. [7].

Theme Music

The music used by TV Patrol during 1987-1992 is from the Greek composer Vangelis with the track "Pulstar". After that on 1992-1996, Ryan Cayabyab composed an original theme for both TV Patrol & The World Tonight. When Noli de Castro went solo, it adopted the music entitled "Allegro" from Gari Communications. "Allegro" originated on the San Francisco CBS owned station KPIX-TV in 1992. To this day, TV Patrol World still uses the same melodic theme with re-arrangement done by Jimmy Antiporda (the old theme still used in the radio).
