It is endemic to Sulawesi. It used to be considered a separate species from the Moluccan Swiftlet but was lumped by the International Ornithologists' Union in August 2024.[citation needed]
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
