St. Martinus University Faculty of Medicine (SMUFOM) is a for-profit university located in Willemstad, Curaçao, in the Caribbean. St. Martinus confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

History

St. Martinus University was founded in 2000 by John Daryanani. St. Martinus changed ownership in October 2010 and it has been rising academically to newer levels of success since the new administration has taken this .[1]

Curriculum

Each semester in the basic sciences consist of 20 weeks. There are 35 contact hours of teaching per week in each of the first four semesters.[2] After completing the Basic Sciences at the Curacao campus, students complete clinical clerkships in hospitals in the United States.[3]

St. Martinus also offers a one year pre-medical program for high school graduates who have not completed the necessary prerequisites for the MD program.

Accreditation

St. Martinus University was chartered by the Government of the Netherlands Antilles in 2001 and recognized by the Curacao Ministry of Health in 2005.[4][5] St. Martinus University is listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and in the AVICENNA Directory for medicine.[6][7]
