Spookley the Square Pumpkin was found in the pumpkin patch by Bella and Boris. Two pumpkins aren't very nice to him so he feels left out. Plot

The film is narrated by Maxwell Kane (Brandon Rhodes), who begins his story by telling of the times he had in Kindergarten with Kevin Avery (Conner Lyons), called Freak because he uses crutches and is teased like Maxwell. One day, Freak doesn't come back to see him anymore.

Many years later, Maxwell has failed seventh grade twice in Middle School when Freak is moving into the house next door with his mother, the Fair Gwen of Air. After Maxwell helps Freak trigger his toy bird out of the tree, they become best friends again. During a Halloween party celebration in math class, the teacher, Mrs. Loretta Lee (Victoria Rowell) catches them talking and plans to embarrass both boys by having Maxwell carry Freak around the room on his shoulders. They are teased, however later, Maxwell starts to let Freak ride everywhere on his shoulders. They name themselves "Freak the Mighty", they equal up to nine feet tall. After many adventures, quests, and events, Freak has an unexpected seizure, but he recovers. On Christmas Eve, Freak comes home and wants to celebrate the holidays, but Maxwell is kidnapped by his murderer father, Kenneth "Killer" Kane, causing Freak to spray Maxwell's Father with soap, curry powder, and vinegar and save Maxwell.

Next morning, Freak passes away because his heart is too big for his body. Maxwell is depressed in his bedroom for days, but when his teacher reminds him that"Doing nothing is a drag kid. Think about it", he writes a book about Freak and himself, going on until spring. Maxwell comments, "I have read a few books, now that I have written one." During the after-credits, they revealed that there WILL be a sequel.
