'''Special Kindness In Packages, Inc. (also known as SKIP or SKIP Cares)''' is a U.S. 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit corporation that provides free and fun care packages to overseas deployed [[U.S. military]] personnel. |
== History == |
In 2004 SKIP was founded by Tracy Stiers to honor her brother, [[U.S. Army]] Sgt(ret.) Skip Spoerke, who had recently deployed to Iraq. |
The organization started out small, sending a handful of care packages to Spoerke and his friends each month, and developed to accommodate the growing requests for care packages coming in. By the time Spoerke returned home in February 2006, SKIP was sending upwards of 75 care packages every month to deployed troops around the world. Today, SKIP ships more than 1,500 care packages to deployed soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines each year. |
From November 2004 through February 2006, SKIP was accepting requests for care packages by referral only. SKIP now accepts online requests for care packages for any deployed US military member. |
Spoerke has since been medically retired from the military for wounds sustained during his deployment to Iraq and is now the president of SKIP, Stiers is still actively involved with the organization as the vice president. As of December 31, 2011 SKIP will end its mission of sending care packages.<ref>http://www.skipcares.org/</ref> |

SKIP's Care Packages For Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines are among the most requested care packages by deployed US military members around the world. |
Care packages shipped by SKIP are free for deployed troops. |

== Requesting care packages == |
Special Kindness In Packages only accepts mailing addresses of currently deployed US service members with valid overseas APO/FPO mailing addresses. SKIP does not ship care packages to US service members serving in the United States regardless of deployment status, or to coalition forces or civilian contractors regardless of their location. They will ship larger care packages to support small groups (i.e. squads or fireteams) of US military units at request, but cannot support entire units/companies. |
