Skepta

Joseph Junior Adenuga, better known as Skepta, is a British MC from Tottenham, London. Originally from and born to Nigerian parents he moved to London aged three. He is a producer and DJ commonly associated with the North London grime scene, including Roll Deep and Boy Better Know.


He began his career as the driver for Grime legend Big H. He also DJ'ed for Big H and President T under the name of DJ ToneDeaf although he soon took his hand to the production side of music where he received much attention for 'DTI'. He started his music career with his brother JME (Jamie Adenuga) and became renowned throughout Greater London for his hit single (he also produced), "Private Caller" which featured many of his Meridian Crew from Meridian Walk in Tottenham.

Life & career

Skepta as a rapper/mc has performed all over the world: United States, Italy, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Czech Rep, Sweden, Germany, Cyprus, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Holland along with many other countries whilst also making the bill of UK festivals Glastonbury and V. Having already featured on MTV Base ‘About to Blow’, graced the pages of magazines from i-D, One Week to Live to Dummy to RWD to Blues & Soul. Skepta was also chosen to perform in the Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2008, 2009 and 2010 which was very successful.

His main target is to make grime music 'mainstream' in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. So far, alongside accomplices like JME, Frisco, Shorty, Wiley, Giggs, Jay Sean, Jammer And C Gritz , he has helped to increase the levels of 'spitting', and has produced and created grime hits such as “Duppy”, “Stupid”, “R U Dumb” and “The Large Way”.

Boy Better Know

Skepta (Managing Director) along with brother JME (CEO)& Grime Veteran Wiley began their grime label Boy Better Know in late 2005. The phrase "Boy Better Know" was originated by Big H the artist. This phrase was then taken by Skepta and JME. Early 2006 saw the release of 'Shut Yuh Mut' - Boy Better Know Edition 1 which features all 3 artists and throughout the years has contributed and aided many other artists such as Frisco and Wiley to put out mixtapes, along with JME (4 mixtapes) and Skepta's September 2007 release 'Greatest Hits', which was distributed nationwide.
