The '''Scott Lake Community''' is located in [[Thurston County, Washington]], [[United States]], about five miles south of [[Tumwater]], 10 miles south of [[Olympia]], 15 miles north of [[Centralia]], and two miles north of Maytown.

==Climate==
The Climate of Scott Lake is relatively cool, mild, and rainy. In the summer, the temperatures are mostly in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. The hottest it gets in a normal summer is usually around 95 degrees.

==Scott Lake Currently==

The Scott Lake Community is an unincorporated housing community in [[Thurston County]]. There are only two entrances into Scott Lake. There is the main entrance which is Scott Creek Drive, and the other entrance is Bogie Street. There is the Scott Lake Community Center [http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Scott+Lake+Community+Center+Olympia&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&view=text&latlng=12902454700350100886] on 114th Way along with a baseball park. There is a park along the shore of Scott Lake. Next to the park is the Scott Lake Golf Course[http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/mbase/cgi-bin/DisplayPage.pl?source=edb&source_id=16627]. There is a Texaco Station with a convenience store on Scott Creek Drive named Scott Lake Grocery[http://local.yahoo.com/info-22266779-scott-lake-grocery-olympia]. There is a Cell Phone tower on Champion Drive. There is a water station on Scott Creek Drive.

The Scott Lake Community is patrolled by the Thurston County Sheriff and the Scott Lake Patrol.

According to the State Department of Game's Survey in 1950, the deepest part of Scott Lake is 18 feet deep. And the lake covers an area of 61 acres[http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/eap/wsb/pdfs/WSB_14a_Book_Part15.pdf].

The Scott Lake Community began as a housing development in the 1960s built on what used to be a farm.

===Scott Lake Grocery===

The Scott Lake Store[http://local.yahoo.com/info-22266779-scott-lake-grocery-olympia] has changed owners and names several times. It started out as a general store called Arizonics. It later became a TV repair shop. Later on, it became a Mobile gas station, then a BP, a 76, and now a Texaco.

===The Scott Lake Park===

At the Scott Lake Park, there used to be a lifeguard hired by the Scott Lake Community to watch the swimming area during the summer months. They decided to stop that service because of budget cuts.

===Intercity Transit===

There used to be bus service to Scott Lake provide by [[Intercity Transit]]. The route was called Route 95. The service was eventually taken away by Washington State Initiative 695 back in 1999.

===The Deep Freeze of 1979===

The winter of 1978-1979 was one of the coldest winters in the history of Scott Lake. A lot of snow came down in November. In December, started a period of over two weeks of below freezing and near freezing weather that extended into January. On the morning of January 1, 1979, the Olympia airport recorded its lowest temperature ever recorded, eight degrees below zero [http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/cliMAIN.pl?wa6114].

Scott Lake froze over thicker than never before. People walked all the way out to the middle of the lake.

===The Plane Crash in the early 1990's===

A small private plane crashed into the lake during the summer in the early 1990s. Several people on jet skis came out to help. The man that owned the airplane lived on the other side of the lake from the Scott Lake Community.

===The Ice Storm of 1996===

The Ice Storm of 1996 [http://www.wunderground.com/wximage/viewsingleimage.html?mode=singleimage&handle=pictureshow&number=0] hit the day after Christmas. That day brought lots of freezing rain. The freezing rain broke many branches and trees. Power was out in Scott Lake for about six days. Temperatures during the ice storm ranged from 28 to 33 degrees[http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KOLM/1996/12/26/CustomHistory.html?dayend=28&monthend=12&yearend=1996&req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA]. This was the biggest ice storm to hit the area in the 20th Century.

===The Brush Fire in 2003===

There was a large brush fire that occured on Champion Drive in July of 2003. The fire was started by little kids playing with fire-crackers. It burned four acres of land.

===The Murder in 2004===

Several people decided to rob a meth dealer of cash in Scott Lake. They shot him during the robbery.

===The Hannukah Eve Windstorm in 2006===

On the night of December 14, 2006, came the biggest windstorm to hit the the greater Olympia area since 1995, known as the Hannukah Eve Windstorm[http://www.weathersystems.com/2007/03/hanukkah-eve-wind-storm-of-2006.html]. The wind knocked down a few trees in Scott Lake. Branches covered the ground all over. KGY radio in Olympia, recorded a wind gust of 78 MPH. The power was out in Scott Lake (excluding 113th Way and 114th Way) for about three days. For 113th Way and 114th Way, the power was out for about five and a half days.
