It is an experience heavily laden with sacrifices of the great pioneers and dedicated Centro Catolico of Panglao in 1947-1949. San Agustin Academy or SAGA was founded in July, 1949 by Rev. Fr. Pedro Torrefranca, due to the desire to have a Catholic high school in Panglao. The year of decision to have a school was in 1948. In order that the whole town be involved in this great project, with the desire and approval of the Parish Priest, all prominent men and women of the town, the municipal officials headed by the loving Mayor Teofilo Arcay, teachers headed by Mr. Severino Fucanan were called for a joint general meeting with the Catholic Action Members. The meeting was presided by the Parish Priest with the same proposition that a Catholic high school in town would be opened. There was deliberation on the Pros and Cons. The biggest problem encountered was about finance. So, Mr. Rogelio A. Parmisano as President of the Panglao Centro Catolico proposed that all proceeds of the yearly "Pinaskohan" from every barrio must go to school. The problem of money was solved. That was October, 1948. By January, 1949, the work was begun: repairing and remodeling of the convent for classrooms, making chairs for the students, tables for the teachers and buying textbooks, library books and laboratory equipment, etc. The next problem was the petition for a permit to the Bureau of Private Schools to open first and second year levels. To expedite its approval, the group affiliated with the Bohol Catholic Schools Association.

He summoned the Centro Catolico, thru its President to call for a special meeting to resolve once and for all the proposition to open a Catholic high school for the youth of the town.

Let due recognition be highly accorded to the people of Panglao, especially those who in one way or the other helped make such dream a reality.

But an institution does not persist solely on the PAST. It has also to look forward... for the future always possesses a bold challenge for greater achievements. Under a very enterprising and dynamic director in the person of Very Rev. Pelegio J. Dompor, this Catholic school, SAGA, has completely metamorphosed in her physical and intellectual environment. He is responsible for pleasing the San Agustin Academy on the map of Bohol as one of the great Catholic high schools. On August 15-30, 2009, San Agustin Academy held its 60th Years of foundation with its theme: "LIKE THE DIAMOND'S GLITTER, THE LEGACY OF SAN AGUSTIN ACADEMY LASTS FOREVER"

The Part 1 of the opening of the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee was on August 15, in which it was started with a Caravan at 2:00 pm all over Panglao by all SAGA Alumni.
