René Weller (21 November 1953 – 22 August 2023) was a German boxer. He competed for West Germany in the men's featherweight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics, defeating Serge Thomas of France before losing to Gheorghe Ciochina of Romania.[1] He was also most likely to become a West German representative at the 1980 Summer Olympics, but the West German government participation in the Olympics boycott caused Weller and the rest of the Olympic squad to miss the event. Weller died on 22 August 2023, at the age of 69 after suffering from dementia.[2]
