Rachel Zoe (born September 1, 1971) is an American fashion stylist and author best known for working with celebrities, fashion houses, beauty firms, advertising agencies, and magazine editors. In 2008, she starred in a self titled reality television series The Rachel Zoe Project.
Early life
Born Rachel Zoe Rosenzweig, Zoe was raised in Millburn, New Jersey where she attended Millburn Middle School and High School and graduated from George Washington University in 1993.
Career
As a stylist, Zoe has worked with Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie, and Keira Knightley. Zoe's current client list includes Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Debra Messing, Joy Bryant, Molly Sims and Anne Hathaway.[1] In 2007, Zoe left her agency, Magnet, and signed to TSA (Todd Shemarya Agency).
Zoe's influence on her clients' weight has been questioned by the media; in response, Zoe said,
"I don't think it's fair to say that I'm responsible because I'm a thin person, that because I'm influencing their style I'm influencing what they eat. There was this crazy rumour that I was getting diet pills from Mexico and distributing them. I was like, 'Okay, I've never even tried cocaine. I don't do drugs — I'm too much of a control freak."[2]
Unlike other stylists, Zoe is known for appearing on the red carpet in gowns just as glamorous as those of her clients. Mario Lavandeira, editor of perezhilton.com, told W magazine,
"What I've observed is that if stylists go on the red carpet, they'll make a conscious effort to really dress down in jeans, carrying pins. You don't want to outshine your clients. Rachel dresses as well as her clients, and she'll talk to reporters.” [3]
Other notable collaborations:
- Collaborated with accessories maker Leiber on a line of luxury bags
- Served as the face of Samsung's BlackJack national ad campaign
- Consultant for Piperlime.com[4], Gap, Inc's shoe and handbag website.
Reality Show
The Rachel Zoe Project follows Zoe, her two assistants Brad and Taylor, as well as her husband/partner Rodger Berman. On December 4, 2008, her show was picked up for a second season.
Clothing Line
According to People.com's "Style Watch" website, Zoe will launch a clothing line that is described as "vintage-inspired, [and] affordable." While at DecadesTwo, where she donated personal items to benefit Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, Zoe said of her clothing line:
“It will be absolutely, 100% accessible fashion for sure — for everybody. There’s no reason for me to do a luxury-level design. That’s not who I am. I don’t think it’s what people want from me. I think that I would need to give people that fantasy becoming a reality. That’s my job."
Details have not been released, but the line will include "clothes, jewelry, handbags and a fragrance."[5]
In 2007, she released her first style guidebook with Rose Apodaca published by Grand Central Publishing titled Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, and Everything Glamour. It was on The New York Times Bestseller list.
Personal life
She is married to venture capitalist and new-media entrepreneur, Rodger Berman.
