Professor Green

Stephen Paul Manderson (born 27 November 1983, East London, England), better known by his stage name Professor Green, is an English professional rapper who was signed to The Beats, a record label run by Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem, until February 12, 2008. He won the inaugural JumpOff MySpace £50,000 battle rap tournament in July 2008. In 2009, Manderson worked with Lily Allen on The Brilly-Allent Tour.

He started rapping at the age of 18, and released his first mix tape, Lecture#1, in 2006. He is currently making a new album, called Lecture#2, although the release has come into doubt after Warner Music Group, the company financing The Beats, closed all their deals with sublabels.

He recently signed to Virgin Records and released "I Need You Tonight" through the label.[1]

Early life

Manderson was born and raised in Hackney, East London. .

His mother and father were in and out of his life and he was consequently raised by his grandmother from the age of one.[2]

Early career

Manderson's first public victory was at the Princes' Trust Urban Music Festival in April 2005 in association with Rap Battle competition the JumpOff, in which he won the final round entering him into the final world competition in the Bahamas.

When Manderson was just 18 he started rapping as an MC. In his career as an MC, he won over 100 battles, and claimed his status as the worlds 2nd best MC in the Power Summit 50k battle in the Bahamas, however, he lost to jin who was favourite to win the competition. but many thought the venue was unfair as a vast majority of jins fans are american and from south america. But for a vertually unknown to beat many of America's, and indeed the World's top MCs.

He has broken several records since beginning his career, including becoming the first rapper to win The Jump Off 7 weeks in a row, completing the feat twice. He is still the only participant to have done this. He is known for his quick-witted and offensive style of battle-rapping where he creates rhymes off the top of his head that are related to the person he is rapping about, his humorous style is well-received by the audience.

In 2007, Manderson spent 13 months hosting part of a new radio show on Radio 1, called "In New DJs We Trust". This show was a late night show, held on Friday nights, but has since however been off-air.

Manderson appears on one of the final tracks of "The Twangs" album. A remix of Either Way featuring Mike Skinner.

Manderson also appeared on the ever popular early morning Sky Sports football show, 'Soccer AM' on 24th April 2010 to discuss his career and general life.

What fans think he should do in the future?

I think he should do something with Eminem. As Pro Green will not only get more famous, but Eminem will become famous again-and that would just be awesome 8). And plus everyone likes Eminem but they think he just needs to do some new stuff-and i think it would be great if they did something together.Pleaaaaaaaaase! =).

Stabbing

In the early hours of May 23, 2009, Manderson was stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle during an altercation at Dirty Canvas 4th Birthday at Cargo in Shoreditch. He has a tatoo saying lucky on his neck. He got his done because he felt lucky that he didn't die when he got stabbed.[3][4]

Virgin Records

On 7 November 2009, Manderson inked his second recording contract, signing to Virgin Records. It is unknown what the deal entailed however a mixtape and album is in the pipeline scheduled for released in 2010. He confirmed his album title is called "Alive Till I'm Dead" on his official myspace. The first single off the album is called "I Need You Tonight", which samples the 1987 INXS hit "Need You Tonight". This entered the UK singles chart at number 3 on April 18th 2010.

Personal Life

Manderson lives in East London's Hackney borough and followed Arsenal Football Club as a child.
