Merge into project discussion?

[edit]

The portal seems to be directly related to the wikiproject page. Wouldn't it make sense to merge the two discussions, so no one would be confused about where to look for possible announcements? --Belugaperson 14:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That would make sense, how do you do that? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.42.173.190 (talkcontribs) 21:32, 9 August 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I don't know. I was kind of asking the question to anyone who might know ;) Belugaperson (talk) 17:29, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Selected Article

[edit]

How, and how often, are Selected Articles chosen? I would like to get involved in helping to decide on them. --Gray Porpoise 17:55, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Currently i just choose one about once a month, what i was just doing right now was going through and making a list of candidate ones which i would set to change every month automatically.
The list i have made is quite long as it is, as i have simply chosen articles which would be long enough to deserve mention as a selected article, these are:
Beluga, Blue whale, Bowhead whale, Fin whale, Gray whale, Humpback whale, Minke whale, Right whale, Sei Whale, Bottlenose dolphin, Orca, Pacific White-sided Dolphin, spinner dolphin, harbour porpoise, whaling, whale behaviour, whale song, whale watching.
If you want to add your comments about these, or add any more then please do so, it would be useful to have someone else to help decide these things.
I was also going to do the same sort of thisg with the selected picture as well and have made a list of candidates of them too. --chris_huh 22:46, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, interesting. That's a good list. I think the next selected article should be Orca. It's comprehensive, featured, and deserves some time in the limelight. I'll comment if I have further suggestions. --Gray Porpoise 23:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, that's already been selected. My next choice would be whale watching. --Gray Porpoise 23:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's the one i was thinking of actually, strange. I was also going to choose about 3 or 4 maybe so that i can set up the next few months worth now. So, if you have any suggestions... I think whale song and bottlenose dolphin are quite good and comprehensive articles, with bottlenose dolphin being a 'good' article. --chris_huh 09:25, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I like those, too. --Gray Porpoise 13:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know, i have set up the next selected article and selected picture. They will now automatically change every month. Because of this Dolphinarium will remain as the selected article for the next two weeks until the end of August. --chris_huh 19:23, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for improving the portal. After Whale watching, Whale song, and Bottlenose dolphin, what do you think should be selected? I think Humpback Whale would be good. --Gray Porpoise 22:49, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More on the selected article

[edit]

Just thought i would put this in here so that we could decide on what ones we should have as the next few months worth. As Gray Porpoise said i think the next one should be Humpback Whale (sorry i didn't see you had put that there, which is why it seemed i ignored that request for months). There are plenty to choose from and not really much of a rush to get them decided. C<hris_huhtalk 15:08, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was as an article about porpoises in the SF Chronicle
